That a criminal broke the law and committed murder, what the hell do you think the explanation would be? Would it be any different if he killed a cop with a claw hammer? The stupidity of people astounds me.

As for the Kimber, that SIS serration is one of the ugliest things I can remember seeing done to a 1911 so I'll pass anyway.

What a wacky piece of reporting. LA Times though, business as usual it seems.

There is something fundamentally wrong with a civil rights attorney that doesn't believe in civil rights! :barf:

So the police unit has killed a lot of people, and they are angry at the gun manufacturer, not the police unit?

...Liberal logic carried to its natural end. :banghead:

 Am I to infer that this is a bad thing?

One of my favorite Dirty Harry quotes: "Nothing wrong with shooting, as long as the right people get shot." ;) Such a unit is naturally going to get into more shooting situations than is the norm for most police officers.

Also, nearly every firearm out there is - or is based on - a weapon of war.

so it's just a 1911 with weird serrations on the slide?

yeah, that's a highly specialized pistol all right. Better make sure civilians can't have pistols with those extremely deadly slide serrations that spell things .

In a city the size of Los Angeles, SIS has shot to death less than one person per year on average and people are upset?

Heck, dozens of people are shot per episode in Walker, Texas Ranger.:D

So I guess a Dective Special is made for a special detective, is an airweight made for a pilot or an airhead, lol

I'm under the impression that the SIS iteration doesn't have the firing pin block that all the other Kimbers (including my two) have. More like a model 70Colt, IIRC.

If critical thinking was a requisit for employment at the LA times, the paper would not exist.

    What a bunch of BS.
Someone should inform them that they are complaining about a "highly specialized" design that has been available to the public for almost 100 years.
Maybe that would shut them up.

And what's wrong with police fatally shooting criminals? Would they rather have the criminals fatally shoot the police? Or unarmed civilians?
I'd say if someone has to get shot I'd prefer it be the criminal.

I especially like how they decided to quote Iggy (Ignatius Chin), who has a VERY bad reputation amongst California gun owners. This is the guy who accidentally cut loose on his own DOJ issued desk with a full-auto weapon while examining it. He has allegedly even told gun owners that he would modify their weapons until they were non-compliant with CA law, and then charge them with crimes. He intimidates gun show vendors, trying to get them to give up records he has no business trying to access, and has been behind several "busts" of dealers who refused to kowtow to him, but never seem to get convicted of anything. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, by any means. Anyone who quotes him at face value hasn't done their homework.

I fail to see the point he was trying so very hard to make, Kimber has made plenty of guns for 'special people' in the past and marketed them to the public too, have they not?

Nothing special about the SIS, other then the slide serrations.

This article is a classic example of what we call "PSH".

This stands for pants poopin' hysteria.

Oh, no! Not the same gun that the police use... the horror! Next they'll be selling civillians the same high-speed, specialized pursuit vehicles the police use. Can you imagine the bloodbath in our streets if the kids got their hands on cars like that?

The SIS models are actually heavier than some of the others...if I remember correctly, all four are steel-framed, and the wood grips have a fatter profile than a traditional walnut or plastic grip panel.

Having handled all of them, I wouldn't say they're hideous, but they definitely aren't for everybody. My only real complaint is that the grips are too wide; they almost give it the feel of a widebody 1911, which I strongly dislike.

Idiots will be idiots. It's just a shame they have to be stupid in public.

I can't believe the citizens of LA are trusting their lives to a group that took 18 months to design a 100 year old pistol...
