Pittsburgh mayor wants to ignore state firearms preemption law

It's excellent that they finally revealed their true intentions, which had existed for decades.

At least people who vote for "that political party" will no longer be able to say "Oh no, we just want Common Sense restrictions". But then they want even tighter regs, and declare "We just want common sense gun restrictions" as another step towards eventual total confiscation or impossible red tape. Even if it requires fifty years, they are willing to wait.
Let's be glad that the anti-gun ownership people finally revealed more of their true colors.

It is hard to catch any of them stating that they (some of them) want Zero gun ownership, but at least this recent arrogance towards the laws is an indication that they want Much more than what they have openly proposed.

This is similar to what was happening in Europe in the 30s in Germany and Spain - and we all know what that led to

MS has state preemption. Well a few years ago we had some judges who tried to ban conceal carry inside the entire courthouse, overstepping their power and going against state law. MS state law says with an enhanced permit, "courtrooms with court in session" are off limits while the court house is good to go. Finally made it to the MS Supreme Court, and those judges were reminded about state preemption.

My point is, keep up the fight. Law abiding gun owners may be getting hit hard right now, be we are still in the fight.

Seems to ME that those MS judges should have been removed from office and replaced with some who enforce the LAW. It won't take replacing too many to get the rest in line with their responsibilities.

Not saying you are wrong but you sound defeatist. Cold dead hands! To say we are a dying breed might be true but it’s hard to believe that when you look at the rate shooting sports has grown the last few years.

This is a losing strategy. The way things are going you will eventually run out of places to move. My only solution is we all move to one state and give the gov the bird. Or maybe a couple of states. Only problem is that was tried in the past and didn’t go so well. But we are running out of options. I’ve got way too much invested in my stuff to just ha s it over. Now if they want to compensate me then we might work something out, or not.

I mean our gun laws here aren't perfect, but they're definitely moving in the right direction. If the right would try to pull in the Hispanic vote a bit we could be set for a few decades at least.

Gun control always, without exception, follows overpopulation. Cut population growth and cut government over reach.

It's an excellent example of how people cause violence. More gun ownership and less gun crime in rural areas / more gun crime and less gun ownership in urban areas. Too bad the solution never really has any actual logic just the "guns kill -> ban guns" train of thought that has failed to work anywhere that I'm aware of.

The sheriff of my home county in Mississippi stated he does not care what the law says, he will find a way to keep guns out of his courthouse. There is a suit in the system to keep him honest.

We have the wonderful issue here in the county I live in here in Alabama. Our county sheriff does not care at all for the law, almost every store has a sign stating no open carry with his name as the provider. I have heard stories of people getting harassed for open carry, even though it is legal. Some people just don't care about the law but only their beliefs.

With the proper lawyer, their beliefs can land them under a bridge... with their families.

Rahm Emmanuel, the outgoing Shicago mayor, has been thumbing his nose at Illinois' pre-emption law in the concealed carry law ever since it was passed.

And just how would they go about doing that? Every Hispanic I know personally is against illegal immigration and wants a wall built. They are mostly Catholic, conservative, rural, and good and decent folks.

They are already voting for the right...

I lived in Arizona for seven years. Hispanics are as varied as whites. The ones I knew/know were conservative. But I also saw some absolute prime examples of human debris; lazy, stupid, and criminal. Just like white people. Or black people, or yellow people.

The right needs to double-down on the rhetoric and principles that appeal to conservatives and others with common sense who love freedom and liberty; regardless of their skin color. Leave the polarization and hate speech to the left; they're naturals at it...

I tend to look at things and try to figure a work-a-round.
If you cut off the finger extension would that make the stock okay?
If you drilled and tapped some holes in the stock, so that at a later date you could bolt on a finger extension back on, would that be okay?

It's easy if you simply don't believe in it. Remember, in the last week a Congressman has stated openly that he'd like to censor speech he doesn't like.

People who hate the 2nd Amendment almost never stop at hating the 2nd.

What dawned on me a while back is a lot of people have no appreciation what-so-ever for the constitution. They view it as an encumbering, outdated piece of paper that needs to totally done away with. They want elected officials to run totally free of any restrictions.

The key word there being rural. The Hispanic population in more urban areas tend to be very liberal (mostly likely a side effect of city living) but still are culturally inclined towards more conservative beliefs in a lot of issues. A revamp of our immigration laws versus this hard lining on an obviously flawed immigration system might go a long way towards snatching up those urban voters.

I know if we did that in Washington state said:
not a fan of Seattle politics... but that comment made me laugh... what's WA State without Greater Seattle area? Spokane (...ghetto...), Apple orchards and Cherries? Yakima and Moses Lake + Bellingham (quite liberal btw) as larger cities and Spokanistan as capital? The GDP without Seattle would be roughly West Virginia level...

Bingo! The right is too nice and compromises too much whereas the left doubles down on nonsense and their voters love them even more. The right blew the last two years when we controlled the house, senate, and presidency. We should have had all kinds of pro gun legislation, but the right didn’t want to kick a beehive and upset the liberals. The right held its ground, but gained little, if anything 2A related. They should have ramrodded the HPA through even in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting. Instead, the right cowered, played it safe, and appeased the liberals. And for what? So the liberals could get elected and start throwing out absurd anti gun bills in the hopes that one or at least a part of one goes through? The right needs to stick to their guns, call out the liberal BS and not give liberals an inch because they’ll take 1000 miles.

I think the analysis that the 'right' didn't want to upset 'liberals' is naive. We really don't do right vs liberal here as that division doesn't give insight into the debate.

It is the case that the elites (right, left, up, down, inny, outy) do not want an armed populace as a center of power separate from the elite tools of government and business. The leadership of an economically motivated 'conservative' elite had no interest in pursuing gun rights vigorously. Their pro gun rhetoric is really bait and switch to get the votes of the gun rights demographic. If there was actually a major win on gun rights - as a comprehensive and definitive SCOTUS decision or equivalent legislation - they would lose the scare tactic issue of defending (note - not expanding) the 2nd Amend. for votes.

Scare tactics abound. The socialists are coming for your guns. The communists are at the door for your guns. Here comes the UN! Send a check! Big League Communist Presidents like Trump ban bump stocks. Communist George W. Bush would have signed the AWB renewal. Socialist Mitt Romney says ARs are weapons of war and not to be allowed.

Socialist/Communist President who is a friend of Russian Leader (KGB agent and murderer) does not fear the NRA!

Get the satirical point if you just use left and right has having any tactical political usage. Waiting for the NRA Vodka Club and I got an ad for their wine club.

Guess I'm disgusted with naive analyses.
