Breaks down (with military/LE discount) to $24.42 per box, shipped......the more you buy, the easier it is to justify the shipping......their customer service is great too BTW.

OK, Houston, Texas folks:

Where do you buy these from a brick-and-mortar in the Houston area?

I've been to my local Academy and they only offer HydraShoks...

From TDS, look at that shipping! More than half the price of the box of ammo!

Buy three or four boxes and it doesn't hurt so bad

Sorry bout the necro

TDS also regularly offers promotions to past customers that more than eliminate the cost of shipping on a decent order.

I have never seen this stuff locally, not even at gun shows. I have always loved the dependability and accuracy of hydroshock, so for me, this is a great new updated product.

It's not that new. It used to be sold under the "Black Talon" name.

Incorrect... That would be Winchester Ranger SXT...

The Federal HST is a newer round, HST stands for High Shock Two... Completely different design than the black talon and even the hydrashok.

Pictures of expanded HST's and Black Talons look similar but the precut design in the bullet before firing is different. They are also shaped differently.

Well, thanks for the education.

Now where can one buy Winchester SXT or Federal HST in Harris County, Texas? (I'm not picky)

I don't know how easily you will be able to find HST in a shop, since Federal doesn't like their distributors selling to the public.

This is an interesting policy. Are they saying that they can't produce enough of them to supply the police and the public? Are they saying that it is so amazingly powerful that we the people cannot be trusted to have it? Either way, I am not thrilled with that policy out of principle.

It's part of their tactical lineup, so it is sold cheaper than their "civilian" personal defense rounds, with current bullet designs, and full 50-round boxes instead of the little 20-round samplers the PD line has.

No reason to spend $20 on a box of 20 out of date JHP bullets when you can spend $19-24 on a box of 50 current, top of the line duty/defense rounds with only the cost of shipping as a difference.

It's like paying 1998 prices for a Nintendo 64. Why would you do it unless you just really had an aversion to buying online or really loved the 64?

You can walk into Streichers in Plymouth, and they purchase the stuff off the shelf. They are a Federal LE dealer. It makes no difference that the factory is 17 miles away! LOL

Streichers is a good operation! I have gotten stuff shipped frt free when it was in their warehouse rather then the store.

Awesome! But I don't have any distributors with a local storefront, so for me it's all internet. My local shops don't carry it, and I see lots of Speer Gold Dot in twenty round boxes, along with PD Hydra-shock in twenty round boxes.

Might be a little late in the thread, but I wanted to jump in a bit.

First off - THANKS to all who had positives regarding TDS! Much Appreciative!

Second - we've been working hard to get the shipping charge thing under some form of control. The way the site works is that once an order is set up it works with FedEx to get a price based on weight and of course zip code to zip code. From all that it calculates shipping. We don't have a handling charge built in.
Maybe its cause were in New Hampshire and shipping to the other end of the US, but I'm not happy with our shipping rates either.

Most importantly I wanted to extend a discount to members of THR - so should you ever feel the need to shop my site use the code THR and you've got a discount.

I hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes or overstepped here - I did ask several moderators before I posted this.

Thanks again for the positives!

John

TDSUS- you beat me to the punch, I was about to ask if we could get a THR Discount!

Acutally I am in checkout right now, it isn't working quite yet.

Same here, tried the code but I imagine it just hasn't updated in TDS's system yet. I'll keep trying.

BTW, been a lurker at the THR for quite some time, this is my first post. Been checking in at THR for good information for quite some time though. Thanks guys and gals.

Code should be working now - thanks guys

Sure is! I just placed an order for 3 boxes of 45 230 gr HST to try out in my P345.

Got some Golden Sabers last week to try. Been wanting to try some HST's too. Glad I found this thread. Thanks for the discount TDSUS - pleasure doing business!

Ordered from TDS about 200 rounds of Federal HST's (.45) and took 1/2 of that out yesterday. Although the rain was coming in sideways at the Bullet Hole, I still had a great time playing with this round. Thank you again for superb service and your kindness in offering a discount.

When the Talons come in, you can count on me ordering from you!

Rok

Ammunition To Go is the only source that I know of that keeps HST and Rangers in stock decent prices and usually have my order in two or three days. Buying in their bulk 500 packages will save all of of money in the long run.
I think these are the the tests done at LEO facilities around the country. That the OP was talking about, in case you are interested. They are downloadable PDF files so you will need Adobe Acrobat to read them if you do not have Adobe Acrobat . You can download it
