Places to shoot in Washington State

Hey all,

Does anyone know of places to shoot in the Seattle area?
Roughly within 100 miles or so.
There are plenty of ranges but id rather not shoot there, too close proximity of other shooters I don't know, and the range fees are more than I want to pay.

Currently in Snohomish county, usually go to Sultan to the "famous spot" but it has since been closed down and it is illegal to shoot at all there.

Last minute ideas, trying to get some friends together tomorrow if possible.

Which ranges do you not want to shoot at so people won't repeat them? I go to Greenwater now and then. It's about 10 miles east of Enumclaw on highway 410.

I've since lost my GPS coordinates, but some of those small service roads going up the terrain end up at gravel pits and have been used as shooting ranges informally (you can see where some people didn't pick up their brass). The views are great up on the hills too, really refreshing.

I just prefer to shoot outdoors if possible, not at ranges.

The fees are a little silly at times, and they have odd rules. Like only loading one
round at a time, or no "rapid fire"

Any info on possible outdoor shooting spots would be extremely helpful.

The more open space, the better. I cant be too picky now a days, I know that.
Open pits, anything that you can easily find, forest service roads.

The spot you describes sounds great.

I know for a fact that lots of people shoot at or near the "famous spot" in Sultan with no repercussions. People I know have spoken to SnoCo Sheriffs who have said that they won't bother shooters that are safe and who pick up most of their trash. The DNR is another story.

I'm not saying that it's not illegal or that I shoot there. It is and I don't.

There are many rangers, north of Seattle, from Everett, all the way up to Whidbey Island. I lots of friend that shoot, in Everett off Airport Rd. I personally shoot up a Greene's in Oak Harbor. I like Greene's because its out doors, and the people there are great.

HA! You've got alot of faith in that state don't you? I just moved from that state and it was the best thing I've ever done. Unless you go to a shooting range, you're shooting illegally. The lawmakers in that state are animal rights activist environmentalists and they're ruining the state. My best piece of advice would be to go shooting in your local lawmaker's office. It might actually help things.

BTW, one county on the tip of the peninsula wanted to make the entire county a gun-free zone. They would have completely banned guns in all forms, for all purposes, and for every resident but the NRA started a massive mobilization and the county (figuratively) dropped the idea and ran for it's life. That's the type of lawmakers you have in that state. I'd suggest moving out of state like I did.

Edit: Cesiumsponge, I lived in Enumclaw across the big field/cow pasture from McDonalds. You can actually see the red farm house I lived in from the Mcdonald's parking lot on the side of the building in the direction of Safeway. Small world.

That sucks. I'll be transfering up to Everett in a few months and was wondering if things would be as free as they are in Nevada in regards to shooting. It's nice being able to drive 5 mins in any direction and be able to shoot.

I'm sure i'll be posting in a few months to see if you guys have any recommendations on shooting ranges near seattle.

This is plain untrue. You can shoot just about anywhere in a national forest in Washington and most state land is open as well. There are rules regarding minimum distance from campsites and buildings. Other than that, be safe and responsible shooters and follow the four rules.

I think some ranger districts close popular shooting spots not becuase of the shooting, but because of the TRASH left by the inconsiderate.

Not according to my local police station employees (LEO's). They recommended a place down on old hwy 8. I cant go there anymore though. The road is too rough for my shiny new(ish) car.

There's some EverGreen shooter's club or something down past Olympia on I-5. I haven't gone there yet but their prices seem reasonable.

I shoot in Green Water also, it's got a ton of old logging roads and a long way out of earshot from any objectors.
I go up on road 72 i've tried all the roads and that seems to be the best.

although u should probably wait cause there's to much snow right now (unless u have a 4x4)
