I have a Smith & Wesson 659 and need to pick up a few aftermarket magazines. I'm currently logged in to CDNN and noticed a 30-round blue magazine for $12.99 Since I'd gotten some fairly honest views from these people before as to what was good and what wasn't, I asked a sales person about the 30-rounder. He told me he had one for his gun and that it "worked fine." But I'm not sure I buy it. Despite this, I'm more inclined to go for the more expensive Mec Gar 20-rounder for $24.99.

I've heard the cheaper mags don't have quality springs in them and I figure that if a 30-rounder worked well, Mec Gar would most likely make one.

Anyone here have any experience with these mags?

Thanks!

I always get factory mags, or Mec-Gar. Nothing else.

Mec-Gar IS the factory manufacturer for a lot of firearms (CZ is a good example).

Factory mags and Mec-Gar magazines have served me well in my CZ.

I really can't say anything specific about S&W, but I'd bet that the Mec-Gars would work well.

side thought: I've heard USA and Pro-Mag are junk, but have no experience with those. Those seem to be the popular brands of cheap magazines. I'd ask the guy what brand of magazine it is.

I've been told similarly.

But I've also been told that the Black Warrior line of inexpensive magazines have worked well. I dug up a bunch of new Ramline plastic mags, and they're supposed to work well, though not last very long to being, well, plastic.

Mec Gar mags are interchangeable with factory mags, either one will work. I am sure promag and other produce mags that work good most of the time or they would not be in business. The problem is, is most of the time good enough to bet your life on, that why I would only buy factory or Mec Gar.
