Pretty much the whole of the question is contained in the title. I don't see how this can or would work. Anything I'm missing? Any suggestions to make this work or for next-best alternatives?

Note: If you don't have anything of value to contribute, at least make it funny.

Don't go with steel, to much "crush factor". I'd recommend lighter poly plates, III+ or so, and a large sized carrier that covers a lot of real estate to spread the load. The funny answer is, it's gonna bounce when it gets hit. The serious answer is, it's going to HURT when it gets hit, AND when running or any other activity that makes it move a lot on tender flesh. I would also suggest going to a military site and asking female soldiers or Marines how they set up their gear so as to accommodate the rack.

I have seen some well thought out designs of women’s armor.....in video games.

My sister is a LEO and she says, “My ballistic plate is uncomfortable because it digs into my....” you know.

Is this a serious question or just idle thought?

Regardless, the answer is already out there in the "form follows function" of soft vests for women, triple curved plates and sport compression bras. The function of a protector isn't just to stop the bullet from penetrating, but to also retain it to prevent secondary injury. I don't think you can do that with acute angels deflecting the path of the bullet. I suspect large cup size, male or female, are stuck using an uncomfortable plate with minimal curvature that crushes fleshy parts in contact with it.

Thanks for the replies. It's a serious question, but I appreciate the not-so-serious replies just the same.

OP, in military use the plate carriers, IBA, Interceptor Body Armor system, provides a Level III protection with the soft kevlar innards and has the "pockets" for the ceramic/kevlar plates. Many women in uniform have worn such a system. Typically you want to go the next size up so it allows for a little room. It's not an undergarment system, it's an outer system. There are many variations out there, but I can tell you from experience they are not the most comfortable thing to wear for many hours a day in wonderful worldwide conditions.
