Please help me find a good DAO pistol

I have always shoot a TDA pistol. My grouping were okay, but nothing to get excited about. Today I was at the range and relized something. When I shot my pistol(PT99) in DAO only I hit the center of the target EVERY time. I changed pistols and tried a Sig and I got the same results.
I don't know if thats normal, but I shoot 100 times better in DAO. So now Im off to find a good pistol with a good DAO trigger pull. Can anyone send me in the right direction in finding a good DAO only pistol($500 max).
P.S. Im not really into revolvers, and perfer the auto pistol for a variety of reasons.

Nothing wrong with SIGs - the 229 DAK is damn near perfect, may be a bit $$ though. The 228 is ok, but may be a bit small.

Everyone has a favorite. Mine is the excellent KAHR pistol. Ideal in MY book.

I wouldn't include the Kahr or XD as "true" DAO since there is no follow-up strike with a second pull until you at least partially rack the slide.

Walter P99 QA is like this too, the AS is basically a striker fired DA/SA and there is a P99 DAO model that CDNN has on sale now.

I think the XD has the best trigger out of the box on a plastic pistol. I like Kahr's trigger a lot.

Sounds like a Glock is what you need.

You can work the trigger to break at 9,5 or 3.5 lbs with ease.

+1 for xd's the best trigger pull I have found on a DAO, but that might just be because I have gotten so used to it but after 500rds or so it gets even better! I definetly like it better than the glock and Khar triggers and it isn't as much of a trigger pull like on some others!
