You guys,

I've looked all over for info on reassembling a Uberti 1873 Cattleman Single Action. The only things that I removed were the handle and the trigger guard, along with the Hammer. I cleaned out the gun because sand had gotten into it. When I put it back together, the barrel turns freely, unless gun is pointed down and then it seems to function properly. The hand that turns the cylinder doesn't seem to be coming out properly, instead it falls back inside the gun when the gun is pointed up. Please post a link or something, if there is any info online about disassembly and reassembly of the Uberti... This has got me chomping at the bit! Thanks! :banghead: :(

Sounds like the hand spring is missing or bent.

If the spring isn't doing it's job for any reason the hand will drop back into the frame if pointed up just as you described.

This is a link to a schematic of a basic Colt single action of which the Uberti is a copy.
Note part #21. This is the hand with it's attached spring.
The spring must be on the hand, and it should give spring tension to the hand when the hammer and attached hand are inserted into the frame.
