Yes, I searched. :D

Please share your experiences with Mec-Gar mags. I'm looking to pick up some extra mags for my Browning BDA-380, and the most common ones out there seem to be the Mec-Gar aftermarket ones. They're about $20 cheaper than either the Browning OEM mags or the Beretta 84 OEM mags. I'm willing to spend the extra $20 per mag for OEM mags, but only if there are significant quality issues with the Mec-Gar mags.

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide...

Mec-Gar's are great. A lot of times they ARE the OEM manufacturer for the big companies. Stay away from Pro-Mags-absolutely terrible.

It is very likely the Browning mags were made by Mec-Gar as an OEM item. From my experience in CZ's, Mec-Gars are an industry standard, i.e. excellent in every way. The Mec-Gar supplied with my CZ-97 has fed over 5,000 rounds and performs flawlessly; still has the original mag spring.

The Mec-Gars for your Browning should perform beautifully.

Mec-Gar makes or has made OEM mags for AMT, Armscor, Astra, Beretta, Bernadelli, FN Browning, Charles Daly, Colt, CZ, IMI, Kel-Tec, Kimber, Llama, NAA, Remington, Ruger, Sigarms, Smith & Wesson, Springfield Armory, STI , Star, Steyr, Tanfoglio, Taurus & Walther, among others.

That ought to tell you something!

Unless you're buying magazines for a 1911, it's likely that the Mecgars will be The Best Magazines Evar.

Mec Gars actually are the oem manufacturer of Browning and Beretta mags, and Sig mags, CZ, mags, and a few other big names. The price difference is about right, so its not like you are looking at some junk mags that won't work. I have bought several MecGar mags for my CZ 75 and both my Sig 226 and 229. The function perfectly every time. MecGars are factory mags for those guns...(oh yeah my Beretta 92 also)...I've tried them all and have never had a problem, just cost a little less.

You can go wrong by buying a lot of off-brand magazines, and more than a few leap to mind. But the MecGar line is NOT among them. MecGar quality is exactly like original manufacturer quality because MecGar often IS the original manufacturer.

I've been trying to find a replacement follower for a BHP 13rd Mec-Gar for a couple weeks now.

Good luck trying to find parts for Mec-Gars when they break. The one time I was actually able to get through to them by phone years ago, the parts never did show up. I've been calling them lately and getting an answering machine.

I have mecgars in two of my ccw's. Other than the ACT/Novak mags in my SIG P220, they are the ONLY aftermarket mags I would trust my life with!

Mec-Gar magazines are also OEM for all the Kahr series pistols. I carry a PM9 every day (for years) and love it. Completely reliable.

Mec-Gar magazines are very good quallity. I have bought them for several different semi autos. They are usually cheaper than OEM magazines.

FWIW:

Try and remember:

MecGar's - GOOD! :D

ProMag's - Not so good.... :barf:

Personal experience talking....;)

I thought Kahr made them in house or subcontracted them out to someone more local. From where do you get this information? That's the first time I've ever heard that.

Kahr magazines don't look anything like other OEM Mec-Gar mags and they sure don't say Made In Italy.

For CZs, Mec-Gar replacement parts (followers, springs, base plates, rubber coated baseplates, extended base plates) are readily available through the CZ Custom shop.

Springs are available at several places including gunsprings.com

If you can't find parts for your mags, check with the gun company.

So what you guys are telling me is that if I order Magazines for my 1911 Mil - Spec pistol directely from Springfield armory I am actually getting mags made for them from Mec Gar co.?

No, nobody said that. Rcmodel said mec-gar had made mags for SA, but not that they made SA's 1911 magazines. They make many guns besides their 1911s. Their 1911 magazines are made by Metalform, and are quite good, definitely as good as Mec-Gar magazines and maybe better. At $9 with the "coupon" they are a great deal.
