PM 40 + Ammunition that you are DELIGHTED HAPPY, AND THE GUN WORKS THREAD

I have a PM 9. Doesn't give me warm and fuzzies, but, it's better then a sharp stick.

Looking at a PM 40 heard all the bad stuff. I want to hear from people that have them working happily, and, what ammunition did you use to break in, and, what do you carry?

Double Tap is of particular interest...

The only downside to the PM40 is recoil. That's why I carry a PM9 when looking for deep concealment.

I believe that Kahr has worked out all the bugs. I would only buy a new one though so that you can use the warranty if you need it.

I love mine and broke it in with Blazer brass FMJ and tested\carry Winchester JHP for defensive ammo. I think I also shot a box of Blazer steel case in there. I only had one issue and that was when I dropped the mag by hitting the release; was trying to grab it too tight. The recoil is a bit abusive if you have big hands...it doesn't start to really hurt till you get to round 50 or so.

Anyone have chronograph results on the ammunition out of the PM40 you are using?

I'm wondering if flat points might be the way to go...

Good lord why would you want to use flat point solids in a subcompact service caliber pistol?

Simple: It's a very short barrel, and, the Kahr's don't have great reps for reliability with HP's. A light flat point, with a quick burning powder, will still give you a .40 caliber hole, with adequate penetration, and, you might be able to pick up a larger wound cavity by getting higher velocity then you would with a HP.

Also, light fast tends to give you less recoil.

I don't know, I've never heard of Kahrs having any problem with JHP ammunition, I vaguely remember them having some issues at some point years ago, but every user-review I have read about them over the last two years or longer has been stellar.

FMJ bullets at handgun speeds tend to leave smaller than caliber holes unless they hit bone, because the tissue will part around them with minimal tearing. If you are concerned about reliability, I would say test the gun out with some range-cost JHP ammo to see if there's any fire there, or if it was just a little steam. FMJ won't be any faster than a similiar JHP, unless the FMJ is loaded exceptionally hot, like one of those Double-Tap woods carry loads for instance.

I have an MK40 rather than the PM40. It kicks a fraction more than my Glock 23 (probably because it weighs 1 ounce more, with an empty mag). With some rounds, the tip of the bullet was nudging the slide stop just enough to lock the slide back. Not sure if Kahr has addressed this, especially since that seems to be the #1 complain with PM40s. I just filed my slide stop a little so that bullets wouldn't hit it but the follower still would, and it's never jammed since.

It's actually a little more ammo tolerant than my Glock 23, which didn't like one batch of handloads that I accidentally made a little longer than SAAMI max length.

If a Kahr doesn't feed JHP ammunition, it probably will not feed anything else either and must be repaired.
