World War II was an especially heroic time where no one "messed" with them due to a healthy dose of economic concessions and trade with the Third Reich.

While true, it also misses the point that Hitler didn't want to waste the resources necessary to conquer the Swiss until later. He would have eventually got around to it, but because of the great effort it would have taken as compared to the meager reward he would have gotten, the Swiss were left mostly alone!

Just pointing out that LAPD had stuff given to them. Police having long guns is not exactly something new.

To put it simply, no. We're not in any kind of arms race and criminals aren't getting any smarter or better-armed. To suggest otherwise is typical media fear-mongering.

yep, that is exactly what that article is, media fear-mongering. i'm all for having the police issued the best equipment they can get.
