Probably less paperwork to fill out for the damage of a car than the discharge of a firearm and less legal issues as well.

Hmmm... terminal impact energy of a 230gr. .45 ACP bullet versus terminal impact energy of a 1½-ton police car?

Slaming on the breaks like that is a good way of taking out the radiator of persuing wehicles.
Having a push bar on the front like policecars can help avoid this.

It depends on your car, too. If you're driving a fast, heavy, good handling car, like a large Mercedes, you can push the patrol cars around better than they can you, but if you're driving a Yugo, getting out is probably the better option.

Have you guys seen the two chase videos on Ebaumsworld?

The Mustang one is incredible and the motorcycle one just below it is "you get what you pay for" comical.
