In general, I agree, BUT… maybe your mission is to “find out” what happens when you stray off of the edge of the page. I grew up reading Elmer Keith and his cohorts, and read how much they “messed” around on purpose, so I rather than seeing “I purposefully blew up a revolver with hot loads,” and “I purposefully stuck bullets to find minimum loads,” as cautionary tales, I saw them as confirmation that “destructive testing,” can, in fact, be done in safe and controlled experiments. In other words, if we don’t “mess” around, we don’t find out anything new - like finding out how to build new cartridges like the 357mag, 44mag, or 454casull.
