I was at the Cabela's in Hamburg PA today and they had a good supply of powders and primers. They even had Federal SPP amazingly enough. They also had all three powders, Bullseye, Unique and 2400 at the same time. They had all the Winchester powders too, all of them for handguns and rifles. Not many Western powders unfortunately but they did have most of the new IMR handgun powders.

    It was good to see.
Just a heads up in case anyone is in the area.

Amazing, every time I go to their website and enter the store in Illinois or any in Wisconsin and they always come back Out of Stock. Not going to drive 75min only to find they were telling the truth. Sorry for them but they lost my trust and business.

The Cabela's in Cincinnati is hit or miss. About 1 out of 4 trips and a 30 minute drive out of the way.

It's a 71 mile drive for me and I usually strike out on what I'm looking for. That's why I was so surprised and made this thread lol.

They are high but all I wanted was 2lbs of 2400 so I wasn't going to pay hazmat on that. Online it's $20.75/ lb and I got it for $22.99. I got some nice Bass Pro T shirts for only $5 each too.

I am a fan of the "Support the LGS" club so I try. So 30 miles out of the way and a 25% success ratio.

Down the road someone will say that people won't drive to the LGS and are putting them out of business because these people are lazy and would rather do dot com.

They have the lazy part right.

Cabelas here in Dayton has powders for $32 on average which is way too high for me. I either wait until free hazmat online or I go to Fin Feather and Fir in Ashland, Oh where powder averages $20 per lb.

I was at the Hamburg store today also. Picked up 12ga wads, 30 cal bullets and other odds and ends. The store seems to have changed since Basspro took over but it was still a good way to kill a few hours. Only about 30 miles each way for me.

Even in a market as large as north Dallas, Cabelas is seriously hit or miss with powders... and completely off the wall with pricing. I like Cabelas, they have a lot of stuff... but I don't make a habit of buying stuff there.

As far as powder... I've started buying 8# cans, I've found very few places locally, including Cabelas, that carry the powders I want in 8#'ers...

There are no LGS's left here anymore. Back in the day these guys would tell ya there was no money in reloading. It's ordering stuff online. I did go into Cabela's with an ad from the net. A kid went all over the store to find a thousand percussion caps. My take on it is that the Gun Library and reloading stuff are window dressing for a big clothing store. Help is pretty nice. The best place here to buy reloading things is Sportsman's Warehouse.

Sportsman’s warehouse in Tucson AZ was always cheaper than Cabelas or Bass Pro when I lived there. Still is I assume. I really don’t buy much there anymore so for me it’s just killing time when I have nothing to do when I’m in that area.

Mowgli Terry...You are so right when you said "My take on it is that the Gun Library and reloading stuff are window dressing for a big clothing store". And the GL prices are shocking! Fortunately several months ago I was able to find a SW model 60 at a good price at our Reno Cabela's. But if one looks at the online GL there's some staggering prices.

Cabelas it too far away for me, but they did open a Fin Feather and fur near my work last year. I do like their store pricing for powder and primers. Only wished they would carry Western Powders.

Cabela Hamburg is a 2 hour+ drive each way for me. Last time I went there, a year ago, the powder and primer shelves were completely empty. The clerk told me, sheepishly, that the buyer forgot to order them.

That was the very last visit to them....unless I want to buy a pair of $80 boots listed for $260 a pair and discounted to $99....or I want to buy a T shirt.

The big boys usually give me free Hazmat or Free shipping plus tax......still no bargain.

I participated in a bicycle tour in Hershey (33 miles), this is an attempt to get ready for a 65 mile ride in July. Anyway getting there took me right past Cabelas and I thought about stopping in. I take I-78 to rt 61, took a long hard look at the driveway but hilly ride just wanted to get home. Had I stopped in we might have crossed paths!

I've discovered a little tactic that takes the sting out of paying Cabela's prices: their gift cards are sometimes available on EBay for 80¢ on the dollar. Whenever I find them I buy a few fifty dollar cards for forty bucks a piece. That makes Cabela's prices quite a bit closer to what you can find online. If you're lucky enough to also find something you need on sale the combined savings are pretty attractive.

SW Ammunition in Mesquite carries jugs. They also have the best price around on primers. $30 out the door on pistol primers.

Next gun show at Lewisville or Big Town check out SouthWest Supply, they have in stock a good supply of 8# cans of powders. They also have primers and bullets at reasonable prices. They also have a store front in Mesquite.

If you let them know what you want ahead of time they will bring it with them to the gun shows. I live about 3 hr from them. They will bring my order with them to the local gun shows. This way no chance of someone buying them out on a particular item.

That's probably who I'm buying from... besides Powder Valley, I get most of my powder and primers from the gunshows, and I think it's SW.

Ever since they merged with Ass Pro Shops, their pricing has been sky high on reloading stuff and they took away our 5% discount for LEO, military and veterans. I tried to get them to price match some Sierra bullets that everyone had on sale but the manager said they don't match sale prices, looks like I won't darken their doorstep again. Luckily we have a huge gun show here next weekend and I can generally find what I need at a decent price.
