powder for 45ACP 200Gr.Berrys Plated Bullets

I decider to try some Berry's plated bullets and was wondering what was the preferred powder and charge weight for 45 ACP in a 200 Gr.plated bullet. and maybe 230 Gr. as well.

Welcome back, Mr. Work! I loaded my last ones with Unique and Win231. I believe that the Lyman book showed Unique as the accuracy load for 200gr LSWC. I don't remember the exact load off the top of my balding head.

Not that we're not glad to help, but you really need to buy a Lyman manual and/or start relying on the published info from the powder manufacturer's, like the Hodgdon data center. It's not that we're not delighted to help, but the internet and my memory being what it is, you'd simply be a lot safer, my friend.

W-231, AA #2, WST, Competition, N310/N320 for light loads. AA #5, WSF for heavier stuff. Some of the ones I like anyway.

I use 4.6 grs of Titegroup and 5.2 grs of 231 in my 200gr LSWC'S. Those are the 2 I use most.

Sorry I just wanted some real life experiences from seasoned loaders that use Berry's bullets. I have Hornady 7Th. Edition, Lee Modern Reloading Second Edition, Lyman Third Edition, Accurate number Two (revised), Noslers Reloading Guide #6, Winchester Smokeless Propellant Reloading Guide and Hodgdon's 2007. But they do not reference that particular bullet. Just trying to get a feel them it till my bullets arrive.

I only know then as 200 Gr, Berry's plated bullets for 45 Acp. Or 45 Cal. (452) 200 Gr. RS from Berry's Preferred Plated Pistol Bullet

The Accurate Manual has some loads for plated bullets, as does the Ramshot Guide.

For .45 acp, I use a lot of Winchester 231 and Ramshot True Blue with plated bullets.

I shoot the Berrys 200 Gr HP. I tried the Berrys 200 Gr RS, but I prefered the 200 HP. I use modest charges and push the 200 Gr HP around 800 to 850 FPS.

I have found most load data for lead to be equivilant to plated.

200 SWC - W231 (5.3 gr)

Loaded thousands of those and all my .45 ACP pistols loves 'em!

I use 6.8g. Unique with the 200 grain Berry's. CCI primers, taper crimp.

200gr LSWC bullets loaded with 5.6gr Winchester 231 and loaded to OAL of 1.250" will give you 900fps from 5" barrel. I have been using this as my standard, do-it-all load for all my 45ACP handguns for past 25+ years.
It's accurate, reliable and will do anything that needs done.

Berry's FAQs include the following:

*How do I load Berry's Preferred Plated Bullets?
Plated bullets occupy a position between cast bullets and jacketed bullets. They are soft lead, but have a hard outer shell on them. When loading plated bullets we have found best results using low- to mid-range jacketed data in the load manual. You must use data for a bullet that has the same weight and profile as the one you are loading. Do not exceed mid-range loads. Do not use magnum loads.

Check your manuals for a 200 gr LRN bullet, and use that data. Berry's recommends sticking to low- to mid-range data; so you may want to bounce the suggestions here against your manuals to validate the "low- to mid-range" part.

That would be low to mid range jacketed data, not lead bullet data.

I use Unique in 9mm and 45 ACP shooting Berry's 115 gr and 230 gr bullets respectively. Seems to work well in my XDs.
