Pre-Ban AR-15 Lowers

I was recently reading a thread on the AR-15.com board and they kept talking about wanting a pre-ban lower receiver. Having been out of shooting for a number of years I was wondering what the diference was between pre-ban and post ban lower ar-15 receivers?

They're the same. The only difference is in the manufacture date. The pre-bans could have all the nasty items (bayonet lug, collaspable stock, flash suppressor) attached whereas the post-ban could not. Now that that onerous Federal Assault Weapon ban is expired, the legal distinction is moot. However, you must still consult with your state law to see if you can even have one (and here in Kommie Kalifornistan we can't).

Block installation?

When the ban went into effect some of the manufacturers started installing a block in the lower receiver so it couldn't accept a DIAS (Drop In Auto Sear), most notably Colt.

It was their way of showing what "good" citizens they were.

IMNSHO, we should all stop referring to "Pre-Ban" or "Post Ban" in any writing or conversations about AR's. I feel the same way about using the term "High Capacity" magazines. By doing that we are just reflecting the stereotype phrasing used by the media.

There is no such thing as a High Capacity magazine, because it implies that there is some kind of valid standard for magazine size established by Sarah Brady and her minions.
