I want to purchase several lower receiver assemblies for later use in building 2 or 3 AK-styled firearms. Should I purchase newly manufactured lowers or surplus lowers? How much can I expect to pay for a lower? What are good setups to complete a lower receiver? I am mainly interested in the discussion of internals- I have an idea about the stock and furniture.

Thanks in advance.

NDS is top of the line for AK receivers.
If you want to be able to build in the future,
"roll your own". Gather the needed tooling and jigs
over time to fold them.
Get your kits NOW!!!!!
G2 FCG is the standard for "internals".
Red Star adjustable for @ 3 x's the price.

Well, for one thing, the opening post is mildly confusing. Upper and lower recievers are terms usually reserved for AR-15s (and FALs, to a lesser extent), since they actually have two receivers. The AK has one receiver. So, I'm sure that most people were waiting around for some clarification.

As was said, NDS receivers are well thought-of. As far as parts kits go, find what you can. You're not exactly ahead of the curve at this point, and people are busily snatching up everything they can find. Good luck.

I far prefer the G2 trigger group to the RSA trigger. Yes, the RSA has a better feel and is adjustable, but it is more complex and fragile (relatively speaking) than the G2 (which is about as simple and delicate as a rock), more expensive, and the G2 is more than good enough for an AK.

I think people are pretty weary of these kinds of posts by now. How many of these have we heard since it became clear BO was going to win? You are just a little late to the game that's all. Also an AK does not have a lower and surplus receivers for either especially an AK are really not what people buy these days so people assume you probably don't know much about firearms and are not serious.

Here is an AR lower that know of in stock:

For AKs people usually buy flats for $20 or whatever and bend them themselves.

HR 45 appears to be dead in sub-committee. Read up on the proponent who filed it. Public statements by Pelosi and Reid indicate it's not an issue. Certainly, not at this time.

If you wish to pursue the issue of quality lower receivers, or legalities under existing BATFE regs, re-start a thread, but forget about HR 45 references.
