Russian president Dmitry Medvedev tries some special equipment when visiting an elite Russian Army airborne unit.

Rifle: AI AW (yes, it's imported), pistol: Yarygin PYa (domestic product ;))

Well at least somebody has a President that seems to like guns! I'm thinking he looks pretty comfortable behind the old Accuracy International.

hmmm.

Putin is not the president. To set things straight:

President: Dmitry Medvedev (pictured)
Prime Minister: Vladimir Putin

I can only say that it's very odd to have both titles, which normally never(?)co-exist. Either you have one or the other. Putin was in power as long as he legally could, then he gets this 'prime minister' role instead of president, with Medvedev as president. To me, it sounds like he's ruling similar to before, just a different title. Different front man. Those men of power (KGB is a powerhouse, and they have been deep involved in that) probably have things arranged for themselves.

Anyway, Russian firearms are indeed interesting. They have some unusual 9mm ammo with very light high velocity loads to penetrate armor and other things. The prez might have a personal interest, but most likely it's promotional related.

EDIT: I think this is the pistol he's holding: http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg50-e.htm

Actually there is a bit of precedent for this. Take Germany for example. However one is normally just there for the photo-op with all the power of the King of Sweden and VP Biden.

Putin may not be president but he does run the country!

Dmitry Medvedev is nothing more than a puppet on a string.

If your post disappeared, it's because it was political noise that is not allowed on THR.

Keep that in mind, please.
