I make an effort to empty my used primer tray before removing live primers. And I otherwise prime off the press. You can find me on my hands and knees looking for that dropped primer on the floor though. In the reloading room I have a 30 minute rule before I quit looking LOL.

needle in a haystack!! congrats!

Man, will pre-covid primer prices ever return or what? 70-80 per 1000 with a limit of 1000 (SPP). Ugh. While they seem to be more available now, I dont see prices or limits changing.

Had that happen the other night, I had 49 rounds of 9mm all same headstamp, with federal primers. I dropped one primer under the bench, the only other primers I have are winchester. The OCD in me couldn't let there be one brass primer in a box with all nickel plated primers......
Completely cleaned out the area under my bench....but I found my primer:)

lol Well, truth be told I have been known to mix head-stamps, primers, and powder lots in my boxes of playtime ammo. Long as they all go boom and hit a disposable pie pan at thirty paces (give or take) I’m happy. :)

A single primer doesn't cost much but I have found myself on my knees with my MagLight for probably a half hour looking for a small pistol primer I dropped...
A trick I learned is to lay the mag light flat on the floor when looking for screws or primers.
The shadow from a small object is easier to spot than the object and it illuminates edges and crevices.
