Price Check: CZ40P

I saw a used CZ40P for sale today in like new condition, I thought it was brand new until I asked. It came with night sights and one 10rd mag for $329.

Is this a good price for one of these?

I owned a CZ-75 a few years ago but sold it to a friend when I needed to pay off some bills. I really miss it and regretted ever selling it but I just kept putting off getting a new one. After looking at the 40P today I really liked it but I know nothing about them so I wanted to check here to find out if the price is right.

BTW if I do get it, are there affordable hi-cap mags available for it anywhere? Does it use the same mags as other CZ models?

They USE to sell for less than that new. However, the price has definately climbed...though I am not sure how high and what they sell for now exactly. Mine is absolutely reliable and scary accurate. If like new and if the performance anything like mine I figure the price still makes it a bargain. Never seen one with real nightsights..mine has glow in the dark if exposed to a light source for a while type sights. Finding extra 10 round factory magazines has been a real problem for me..I actually haven't found any in fact. I only have the 2 that came with mine when I bought it. The guide rod is plastic and not full length and it uses a bushing. I bought a full length guide rod cheap from someone that made a couple..but stopped. It is a factory parts gun..but mine is in fact a great shooter. Overall, I think it is a very good handgun..expecially given the price I paid for mine (one of the best bang for the buck purchases I have made). I haven't worried too much about extra magazines because I don't shoot it that much though to be honest. I am more of a 9mm shooter.

Mine is very accurate. It did have some problems when I first got. I got a heavier recoil spring along w/ a metal guide rod. I also purchased 3 cz 40 compact promags put heavier wolf springs in them and replaced the followers with stock cz followers and it has ran great ever since. It shoots so well that me wife shoots it more than I do lately.

I had one, it was HORRIBLE. Bad trigger slap, lots of gritty creep. Just find a used 75 in .40 if you want to go that route. Used will have a slicker trigger anyway.

They're like wine...you can have grape juice right away or wait a few years and have vintage.

Finding extra 10 round factory magazines has been a real problem for me..I actually haven't found any in fact. I only have the 2 that came with mine when I bought it.

The mag issue is a big deal for me, I would certainly think twice about getting it if mags are hard to find and the only ones I can find are 10 rounders.

Mec-gar's are OEM for CZ

Magazines are really not an issue. CZ, Ghostholster & MidwayUSA all sell magazines for it. Or you can buy a full size Mec-gar 12 rounders from Midway and the adapters from CZ fairly easily. The compact magazines only hold 10 rds of 40, but are flush with the bottom of the grip.

I bought a CZ40P recently because I have a bunch of 40S&W ammo.
The price (new) was $319.
I didn't expect much for $319 but it is a suprisingly good pistol.
The only complant I have is with the trigger and I don't like the big base on the magazines. I've also been looking for flush magazines, without any luck.
The gun has been totally reliable and very accurate with every load I've tried.

Yep. Those are the ones I have. The way these fit, there still will be an 1/8 gap between the mag plate and the bottom of the pistol. I have not had any problems with them and replaced the springs with 10% extra power springs from Wolff. I see that you got the last of them too. I am going to try the factory 40 compact mags to see how they function. If you have any problems www.czforum.com has a lot of info on malfunctions and such. It is a good read if you do or don't have any problems.

I bought the 40P a couple of years ago. Fine shooting weapon, but the trigger definitely needs some breaking in. Still kind of 'gritty', even after 1k rounds and plenty of dry fire. Thinking about getting a trigger job done on it. The background is that the gun is kind of a 'frankengun'. Several gun parts used from different models to build the 40P. Even with the trigger issue, it is one hell of a handgun for $300. There was only suposed to be a limited on number of them built, but that was 2 years ago. I did end up adding a SS guide rod and tried a stiffer recoil spring. The CZ website has a forum dedicated to the 40P. Lots of info there.
