Found a local dealer with Mossberg 590A1 in stock. This is the model (manufacturer's item number 51517}, with 18 1/2 inch heavy barrel, ghost ring sights, plain synthetic stock, no other doo-dads. Price new in box is $449. Don't have my finger on the pulse of home defense shotgun prices any more, and am asking the folks here if this is good, bad, or ugly cost. Thanks everyone. Don

If you shop around ,You might find a Mossberg 930 home defense for a few dollars more, that's if you would like a semi-auto over a pumpgun.

Seems like a good price from what I have seen lately.

Yeah....I recall the 590A1 with ghost rings as being $5xx or so on Buds a year ago when I was looking at them. My 500 was $299 at Dicks four years back. I would have gladly paid $449 for the 590; its really hard to put the ghost ring kit from Mossberg on a 500 as you have to silver solder the front on.

Yeah I bought my 500 mariner for 300 so that price for a much tougher gun seems good to me.

I bought that exact model 4 years ago for $425, so that seems reasonable to me.

It's a solid, handy gun. The only complaint I have is that once in a great while, it will shuck out two shells instead of one when I work the slide. That's only happened a couple times though
