I really don't see how they get away charging $1 - $1.50 per round of full power 10mm ammo. This applies to all more exotic full power loads of course. Its just a couple grains of more powder after all. Today I shot some of my hand loaded 140 grain Missouri Bullet Hi-Tek bullets over Power Pistol out of my gen 4 Glock 20. Speed: 1450-1500fps. About the same as Underwood 135's. If this is not a reason to reload then what is....?

First I bought a 10mm. Then I started loading for it. Then I started loading for everything else.

If owning a 10mm doesn't drive you to reload, you either don't shoot very much at all or are very wealthy.

The only reason I got a 10mm was because I reload. I've only bought 1 box of ammo, and that's because my gun came before I had the components and didn't wanna wait to shoot it lol. Cost was $44 for 50 rounds of range blasters. Still have around 20 of them. Never again will I buy factory 10mm

Casting my own bullets from nearly free lead and factoring in brass cost, I figure everything I reload is done for 10-15% the price of factory. 500 mag 25cpr, 357 mag 8cpr, 300blk 7cpr, 38spl, 380, 9mm 4cpr.

I haven't bought a box of factory ammo in a few years. The last box I bought was a box of federal hydrashok 45acp 165gr. at $1 a round I was a little upset to find that one of the primers was missing priming compound and inert. I dont let anyone else make my ammo anymore.

There is some factory ammo I buy, usually Russian stuff when it is at, or below, the price point of reloading....like .223 and 7.62x39
when I get can buy a box of 20 for around $5.00 I buy a bunch and don't bother with reloading. Obviously plinking ammo.

If you reload your personal defense ammo but sure not to use a progressive press. Found out that to be 99.9% sure the gun will go bang you want to use a loading tray, fill each case manually and then give it a final check before seating the bullet.

As for the original post... Supply & Demand is most likely the culprit for the high price.

I now have two 10mm's. I was already loading before I bought my first one.

I did by one box of factory loads to test my first pistol.
There were a bunch left to test the second.

That being said, I have been loading Starline Brass since.
I have been using A#9
I use it for the 180/gr Hornady XTP's and the Xtreme 180/gr Hvy Copper Plated.
I am pleased with the results.

I load on a single stage press (old old old Rockchucker) & use the RCBS Chargemaster.

I got 4 boxes at 22 bucks each. Just shy of a hundred bucks after tax. I made it through about half a box and figured out my colt sucked. I reloaded 20 rounds, figured it out to 25 yards and smoked a nice 8pt buck with it then traded the pistol for a brand new 686.
