I live in Arizona but am on the mailing list of VCDL, which is a fantastic organization every Virginia gun owner should support. I just received the below email from them:

Heads up, Prince William County gun owners!

I have received word from a member that the Prince William County Board of Supervisors (BoS) is planning on announcing or discussing their intent to pass local gun control. That announcement or discussion will probably come at the BoS meeting tomorrow, November 22. If so, there could be a public hearing and vote as early as December 6!

I don't know if the discussion/announcement will be in the afternoon session, that starts at 2 pm or the evening session that starts at 7:30 pm.

I am independently trying to verify the discussion/announcement, but have not heard back from my source yet. If any of you have more information, please let me know.

In the meantime, it would be good if we had some gun owners attend those two meetings and report back. If there is an opportunity to speak against such an ordinance at the meeting, it would be great if people would do so.

The meetings will also be televised, I believe.

Keep in mind that Prince William County is a Second Amendment Sanctuary and has been since 2019. In 2020 the new Board of Supervisors considered dropping that status, but in the end backed down due to overwhelming pressure from constituents.

I will be out of the loop much of tomorrow due to other commitments, so I won't be able to travel to Prince William County to be at the meetings.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia State law trumps county, city and local law making any law in conflict with State law null and void.
The Code of Virginia has a Supremacy of Federal and State law clause.

Arlington County tried that decades ago and were shot down by the State.

We have received many replies to the last alert on Prince William County (PWC) Board of Supervisors (BoS) possibly discussing gun control on November 22.

At this time, we don't need anyone to spend time at the BoS meeting unless you wish to do so. Monitoring the meeting on the computer would do. It is possible that they will be discussing their General Assembly resolution that has a section that supports any gun bills that deal with gun storage, especially in vehicles. If that's all it is, we can handle that whenever such a bill shows up in the General Assembly (if it shows up at all).

HOWEVER, we are learning that there could be a discussion of gun control at their December 6th BoS meeting, under a general "public safety" heading. That one we will probably want to monitor in person, if so.

So, for now, we are no longer requesting that you go to the BoS meetings tomorrow. Let's keep an eye on what is happening in PWC on December 6th. We'll know more once the agenda is posted for that date.

That's encouraging.

Probably still a good idea to publicly oppose any attempts, to hopefully dissuade them from trying.
