A 31-year-old man accused of carrying a handgun outside the South Side home of President Barack Obama last year was sentenced today to five years in prison, authorities said.
Omhari Sengstacke, grandson of former Chicago Defender publisher John Sengstacke, was convicted last month of two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Cook County Criminal Court Judge Nicholas Ford imposed the five-year sentence on Sengstacke, of the 3400 block of South Prairie Avenue, during a hearing today, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state's attorney's office. Sengstacke originally faced up to seven years in prison.

In September, Sengstacke was arrested after he repeatedly tried to pass security barriers near Obama's Kenwood neighborhood home, saying he wanted to talk to the then-U.S. senator about a job. Police found a handgun and a bulletproof vest in Sengstacke's car, but authorities said he never made threatening statements toward Obama.

Sengstacke's criminal record includes previous convictions for battery, aggravated assault, theft and forgery.

WOW!!!!! :scrutiny::banghead::cuss::uhoh:

Why exactly did they search his car? And IT'S CHICAGO, they hate guns, what do you really expect, especially when the Chosen One is involved.

What's with the WOW, for God sake.

An individual repeatedly tries to breach a secure perimeter, more than reasonable cause to affect a search.

The individual is a felon

The individual does not have a legally registered Chicago hand gun

The WOW is he only got 5 years.

It's got bugger all to do with anyone or anything else

Chicago -- The gun laws there apparently vary by districts in that city. I traveled there recently and it just looked like too much of a minefield to take a handgun along. YMMV.

BTG3: You cannot have a handgun in Chicago unless it was registered before 198x

he was also not supposed to be in possession of bulletproof armor, either. Last time I checked, that is also a crime if you're a previously convicted felon.

Kind of makes you wonder what the hell this guy was thinking.

Haha don't be so scared to get PMs if you can send them!

Internet is SERIOUS BUSINESS.
