Hello guys and gals.... I have recently purchased a Lee Pro 1000 and had a question about the rotation of the shellplate in 9mm. When the thing rotates into each position, there is a definite "click" into place. This "click" causes some powder flakes to jump out of the charged case under the bullet seater. Is there any way to soften or dampen that "click" when it rotates into place.

I have been loading in 2 steps with the Pro1000. First I will deprime and prime all of my brass. Then I will remove the decapper pin from the sizer die and load the powder and seat the bullets. Separating into two steps allows me to check and make sure all the primers are seated OK before I proceed - and it keeps any lose powder granules from fowling up the primer feed operation (which seems like the weak point of Lee's products).
Especially with short shelled rounds (9mm, .380) it seems like there isn't too much you can do about some of the powder jumping around.

did you advance the zero adjustment screw 3/4 of a turn forward as instructed by Lee for proper indexing. see the zero adjustment video in the link above.

When I used my Pro1000, I had that problem, limited to the "small," / 'short' cases like .380ACP and 9mmP. Like the others, I too learned to add drag with my finger to the shell plate when indexing.

Certain powders jump, certain powders don't. Clays jumps bad. Unique jumps a little. Titegroup doesn't jump at all. In fact, most powders don't jump, only a certain few in my humble experience.
Yes, you can disassemble the shellplate carrier and clip a coil or two off the detent spring under the ball, but I would think that you compromise its function.
Or, you can place the bullet or your finger carefully on top of the case to cover the case mouth as it approaches the seating station, then nothing jumps out when the detent ball clicks into place.
Eventually you can try other powders until you get one that doesn't jump.

THis is common on shorter cartridges and powders that fill more than half the case. As you surmise, the click is caused by the steel ball bearing popping into the detent on the shell plate. It's a quirk of the Lee design; I use Titegroup and have no problems with this but I have heard of Red Dot users having the problem. Buffering with your finger is about the only solution. Just have the bullet in the left hand ready to put on the case as the ram comes down, and if you do it often enough it will become automatic.
