Folks, I'm a member of the Community Association of Firearm Education,(CAFE). It's a grassroots organazation of instructors and non-instructors in the MD-DC area who enjoy the shooting sports,and give seminars,hold basic pistol lessons and educates the public in the proper way of handling and shooting a firearm.
We've been around since 2003 pretty much working quietly but steadly. Last year we hooked up with the National Shooting Sports foundation,( NSSF), to put on a series of Firstshot seminars. These seminars are a very condensed version of a basic pistol course. A 3 hour seminar covering a introduction to firearms,the gunlaws in your area, transporting,handling and shooting. After the seminar we take the folks out to the range,and they shoot 10 to 15 shots of either a .22 relvolver or a .22 semi.
We have put on 4 seminars since the middle of last year. We came up with the idea of filming a commercial to advertise our next seminar which is this coming weekend. We raised the money, the production company donated their services,and we shot it in four hours for a 30 second spot which is now airing on TNT,USA,FX,Disc,Soap net,HGTV,and CNN.
We're trying to reach the folks who have never shot before. A lot of folks who have taken the seminar have signed up and taken a basic pistol course from us.
