Pro-Mag Observations

Ordered a Pro-mag, on a whim, for a CZ-97B. I can't believe someone would make, and someone would sell, something this junkie.

First off, it wouldn't fit either of my CZ-97's, an 04 and 07 year of manufacture. If I slapped the bottom of the Pro-Mag very sharply, it would insert fully, otherwise, it just wouldn't go. To my surprise, there is 1/4" gap between the bottom of the mag plate and the bottom of the pistol magazine well. Looks hideous, like this mag actually fits something else other than a 97.

Something was causing the follower in the Pro-Mag to bind when I attempted to load some factory rounds.

Going to pack it back up and return for a refund.

I bought one for a glock during clinton's reign of terror because I didn't want to pay $90 for a factory preban mag. I think the follower is still stuck halfway down the mag. Never worked.

Had one for my Ruger P90. It was a 10-round extended mag (mine came with an early 7-round mag; newer factory mags are 8-round). Never worked. It turned my totally reliable pistol into a jam-o-matic.

Yeah... I recently picked up a 30 round AK mag by Pro Mag. My AK performs flawlessly with all of my other mags, but it chokes on almost every round with the ProMag.
I was aware of the crap build quality before I bought it. I mainly bought it to keep in the AK while it is in the gun safe. All of my other good mags are hidden in other places. That way, if some criminal steals my AK and tries to use it in a robbery, they will be surprised when it fails to work. That might give the cops a better opportunity to take them down.

ProMag's are good for nothing more than disabling an otherwise good firearm.

Six Promags came "free" with a used Sig P228 I bought from CDNN a few years ago. I also got a few Sig factory mags for it because I heard Promags were so much cr*p. All six promags worked flawlessly. I was going to use the Sig for a two day combat gun course I was taking, so I took the mags apart, sanded any burs off the plastic followers and replace all the mag springs with Wolff +5% power springs. They all worked great. YMMV.

Ya know, with that newfangled thing called "the internet", folks should do some homework before they spend money.

You can search for "pro-mag" on any firearms related forum and have to look pretty hard to find any positive statements about them.

I've got one (gotten in trade with other items) I keep around to demonstrate how crappy they are.

I'm a big believer in factory mags or Mecgar Mags. For the record though: I started using Pro Mags during the Clinton years and thank God for Pro Mags. They seemed to have a wide variety of copies. They always worked!! I used them in HS 2000's ,CZ's , S & W's, Berettas and they never failed. I would not trust my families life to one but they always worked. The Pro Mag customer service is FIRST RATE too.

I had two Pro-Mag magazines for plinking (to keep from wearing out the Sig factory mags I had) when I had a Sig P-226. I never had any trouble with them. I have since heard of their horrendous reputation, and I'd be leery of buying others, especially for self defense use, but that's my personal experience.

I've had more ProMags that didn't work than did. But even a blind pig finds an acorn from time to time. Buyer beware.

Buy the Mec-Gar EAA Witness .45 mags. They are the same as the CZ97 mags and work well.

I had promags in the past. I even called them once to complain about the magazine follower getting stuck and the person on the phone acted like i just woke him up from a deep sleep. :banghead: For me, it is either mecggar or factory magazines.

Just a heads up for any of you that may not be aware of this. A large portion of the "factory" mags that come with newer, higher quality handguns, ARE Mec-Gar!!!! The gun manufacturer may or may not stamp their name on it, but there's a VERY GOOD chance it's a Mec-Gar. A buddy was looking for some Hi-Power mags, the factory ones (with buckmark logo) were $45 a pop, he got Mec-Gars for either $25 or $30. Hmmm, same mag, but without a logo. I can buy 3 for the price of 2 "branded" ones. Hard decision??????

I'm one who got desperate enough during the Clinton years to buy a couple for a Browning High Power.

Total crap.

If they were the only mag manufacturer we would all be shooting revolvers.

I bought two Pro-Mag mags for two different guns and neither fit. They were too wide for the mag well. I will never buy Pro-Mag products ever again.

I'm batting .500 with Pro-mags. When I bought my SIG P220 a 10 rounds promag was part of the deal. It is a jam-o-matic. I just picked up a promag for a SIG P6, yes it feels cheap, but thus far its...100%.

Several years ago I tried one in a SIG P228. It was four years into the AWB and another 13-round factory mag was something like $125. The only feeding malfunctions that gun ever had were with that Pro-Mag.

On Bersa Talk we tell people not to buy Pro Mags . They don't work . Have had way more bad reports than good.
How come their still selling mags.
Surely people know by now their junk

I bought some advertised as "FACTORY magazines for Sig 220" back when evilBay allowed mags- got ProMags. Well, they are factory mags, as opposed to made in somebody's garage, I expect.
Only times my P220 ever malfed were because of ProMags jamming, the followers would get canted, the curve of the front of the mag was inconsistent and my lead reloads would jam the nose in the front of the mag. Done, done, never again.

I have a Sig 225 (P6) which came with two factory mags. I need three to shoot a qual course so I bought a Pro Mag for $19.95. It was about an 1/8 inch too long for the mag well and the slide would always lock back with one round still in the mag. Load 8 lock on 7. Load 7 lock on 6. I finally used it for target practice and bought a Sig factory mag for $47.95. Pricey but worth it.

Currently using 2 pro-mags and 2 Mec-Gars in my CZ75 (40S&W) the only difference is when I slam the Pro-Mag into the gun the slide slams forward. I consider this a real plus during a session. That's my 2 cents worth anyways.

DocCas that is a classic pro-mag dilemma...one mag works fine and the very next one off their line has problems!!! I would NEVER use my SIG P6 Pro-mag as a carry mag even though it is CURRENTLY 100%...its only duty is as a range mag!

I bought one for my XD-40, just for range use. Its reliable and I haven't had a misfeed with it. I only paid 20 bucks for it.
