i always thought that the ishys stopp making the 2a series in the mid to late 70's but a guy on surplusrifle forum found one in a local shop that was dated to 1987

is this possible? maybe a special honor guard run of some sort?

    PBD,

As far as I'm aware the Ishy 2A was only made for a few years in the mid 1960's. I have only seen examples dated 1965, '66, and '67.

Maybe somebody else has difinitive info on how many years they were made.

    Best,

+1 what Swampy said, but India is a big 3rd world country and it's possible the stop gap until enough FALs were built deal isn't the whole story on the L2A1s.

I've read of late model 2A1's before. Apparently Enfields are popular rifles in India and some limited production was kept up for quite a while.

Are we sure that '1967' just didn't look like '1987'?

Actually the .303/.308 SMLE type Ishapores were made to the mid/late eighties. When the police began getting the FAL/AK in quantity and the Army began switching to the INSAS/AK type weapons.

There's a retired Lt. Col Edwards that seems to be the "authority" on the 2A and 2A1. He says in at least one article that the 2A1 was last produced in 1974. Just curious if you have some source that would suggest later production?

i was talking to a few guys on surplusfirleforum.com about it and one guy said he has seena few dated to the early 90's

the only reason i could see them doing that though is for (a finishing off parts or (b making parade rifles of some sort

all the articles i have been reading says that people have tried to ask the ishy factory and couldnt get an answer

I meant the other way around - that the '1987' was really a '1967'. :)
