Anyone with the mad skillz want to whip up a version of Kalashnikitty with a handgun, copy of the Constitution, and dress that says "DC" on it?

I don't have mad skillz, but a quick search and 5 minutes in Paint yields this.

Very cool, lanternlad1. If you want to make some money, print the tee-shirts, and I'll buy one (along with probably hundreds of thousands of other people).

I would STRONGLY suggest that nobody here go off printing tee shirts, as one of the members here is the purveyor of Kalishnakitty. Why don't you contact him and suggest it?

Over on www.womenandguns.com he's greywolf2112; don't know what his handle over here is. But it would be appropriate for him to have first shot (pardon the pun) at doing this.

Springmom, greywolf doesn't own the rights to Kalashnikitty, as it is based on Hello Kitty and is as such the probable property of Sanrio Enterprises of Japan. The only permission I need is Sanrio's, if anything.
If I were to print these shirts, they would be parodies of Hello Kitty, and thus legal under American law.
I've been a graphic artist for nearly a decade, and am well versed in intellectual property rights.

Spoke with my manager - she's willing to print up t-shirts for those who want them. I work for Image In Media, a printing/design company - we do stuff like this all the time. If you are interested, email mcarpenter@imageinmedia.com.
$25.00 for each shirt size S to XL plus $5 shipping.
$35.00 for sizes XXL and XXXL plus $5 shipping.
We take PayPal and Credit Cards
100% cotton shirts with sublimated printing - will not wash out or get destroyed by drier.

Springmom, we're nearby, you can pick yours up if you want one. :)

    Thanks, y'all

Wouldn't Sanrio go after you? Or too small potatoes?

They didn't go after greywolf AFAIK. Also, I haven't broken any laws if they don't complain. If they complain, I'll deal with it then. Being a Japanese company they are far more forgiving than an American company would be. In my experience, Japanese companies are more concerned with growing the brand than squeezing every dime out of consumers.

    ROFL - that is hilarious!

Yes, I am the purveyor of the Kalashnikitty shirts (now on sale - see the For Sale forum for more details - here ends the shameless plug) - however, as lanternlad1 astutely points out, I am not in any way, shape, or form the "owner" of any rights to do spoofs or parodies involving Hello Kitty.

But I am in no way opposed to anyone else doing this themselves (and honestly, have no right to be opposed to it regardless.)

Good luck, young Capitalists, if you wish to pursue this venture solo! :)

WHat about a pic of the kitty posing in front of the capital with a shirt that reads "Heller Yes!!!" I think that would rock.

I remember when the original Kalishnikitty was put up on t-shirts for sale. They quickly got shut down by the lawyers from the Japanese company. You would be well advised not to sell them unless you want to face legal action.

As you can see above, the originator of those shirts has chimed in his opinion, and he made no mention of getting shut down. The Fair Use laws come into play when doing satire and parody, and I think I'm covered under such.
