I've read before that the mark of an practiced 1911 shooter is that the left side of the pistol frame doesn't have that doggone crescent scratch from inserting the slide stop.

I've tried to avoid that by placing the slide stop against the plunger detent, and then depressing the detent with a nail set. That works OK, but something tells me that there must be a more elegant, reliable method.

    Any suggestions?

put some tape on the frame before you reassemble so you dont scratch the frame

England, I put a picture in THIS thread with a picture of a simple and effective way to prevent the mark using nothing but your hands.

Until you get the hang of it, a piece of tape, credit card, or Widget by Pachmayr, all work well.

    Good Luck...

My plunger protrudes so far on my Delta Elite I have to use something to depress it. But I've added so many other scratches in use, from holster wear, and from learning to field strip and tune the trigger that I'm getting ready to refinish the gun anyway :) Now, just have to decide the colors and patterns I want . . . Gun-Kote, my savior and my bane ;)
