Hate to admit I bought $300 worth of gunpowder, but ran out of good options.
Bullseye has been my go-to from, the first loads for the .38Spl, to right now for .32s, .380s, 9s and .45s. Now, it's my understanding it will no longer be available, for whatever reason. Yes, there are alternatives, but my loading log is full of B'eye. After 40 years of reloading, I hate to start over.
My local shop only had the 8lb kegs; they had 3, now they have 2.
The price of powder and primers has put a dent in my loading, either through price or availability. No longer bother loading 9s; it's cheaper to buy even good ones. But the other calibers are well worth the trouble.
Anyway, rant off. Really take pride and pleasure in shooting and loading. The loading part has just been a PITA of late.

Congrats! You made a good choice. IMO.

Alliant has suspended making canister powder as a result of a worldwide shortage of gun cotton. A lot of wars going on at the moment.

I can't find this information anywhere on Powder Valley's Facebook page, on their website, or on Alliant's website. Not arguing with you, just not seeing this. What I did find however was that Alliant's homepage is touting some of their "new" powders, some of which I'm sure are old powders that have been reformulated.

We've had several threads on this topic at least one of which included a follow-up email from PV.

I'm on the verge of doing same, but with hazmat & shipping it'd be about $400.

I'd all but given up on smokeless - I really enjoy blackpowder, and even the best grades are generally less expensive than smokeless these days - and then went bonkers for shotguns. Plenty of black is being used in my side-by-side, but that keg of 700x I blundered into during the height of Covid is keeping the pump guns happy, at least for another few months...

Nitrog

I am not because I take the pills, if handling Bullseye wear gloves. A Dr. that shoots told me that.
My cardiologist is a shooter also - he is one of those plastic gun guys 🙄 - and I asked about handling nitro powder, specifically W296 which is a very high content powder. He said it’s such a low concentration I would have to eat it like Rice Crispies to notice. At worst it would trying to digest that much paper would give me the trots.

But this wouldn’t be the first time different doctors gave out different advice. You may be sensitive to it where I’m not.

I’m lost as to why he’s saying that implies to only Bullseye.. ?
It wouldn't, even if the rumors were true. I suppose if you ingested enough Bullseye (or any other powder with high nitro content) you could experience the effects. Those effects, though, are fairly harmless, consisting mainly of a headache.

Beyond that, how are we "handling" gunpowder to the extent that we would be absorbing its ingredients to any significant extent? I rarely actually touch the stuff, and while I'm sure I get an occasional sniff of it, I've never experienced the slightest effects. Are folks taking it sublingually or something?

I argue that @CQB45ACP's day should be returned to "unruined" status.

It is done! Thank you.

Me too. I don't "take" nitroglycerin (at least I haven't needed to yet) but I do carry a little metal pill container of it in my pocket. And I've been doing a lot of loading between doctor and cardiologist visits lately.
Am I risking more heart problems because I don't take anymore precautions when handling smokeless powder than I have been taking for the last 40-some-odd years? Am I lucky that I don't use much Bullseye?
BTW, it's not that I don't like Bullseye. I'm sorry to hear that it's becoming unobtainable though - there are far too many good powders going that way lately. :(

He was mainly taking about like cleaning up a powder spill or getting a large concentration on your hands. I never thought about it until he said because I have been carrying Nitroglycerin on my key chain for about 10 years.
