Just curious if the Prvi Partizan 6.5x55 brass is any good?

I am looking to buy some brass for a 6.5x55 rifle that I have on order and have read that American brass is improperly dimensioned while foreign brass is. Is this correct for the most part?

Should I buy the Prvi Partizan brass and will it last well?

Thanks

I've had great luck with Prvi ammo, 6.5x55 included. And all the brass that I've saved seems to be excellent quality. I have no experience with their new brass, but I wouldn't expect their quality to fall off in this one product.

BTW, I've gone through over 1k rounds of their ammo in mixed, milsurp calibers. Unless I can get cheap, milsurp ammo, it's the only ammo I buy for them. Clean accurate and dependable (and reloadable).

IIRC Privi makes the "Grafs" store brand brass which in my experience has been EXCELLENT brass

Yes American ammo manufacturers stay true to their creed of making anything metric they load suck as much as possible. For 6.5x55 they undeload the piss out of the cartridge and make the brass with an undersized 30-06 case head

their new brass is the same they use in their commerical ammo.

so yes it's good brass and yes it will last like other good brass. (Obviously it isn't lapua material) 430/k

And evidently if you're reloading very hot rounds brass life suffers - but then that is true no matter what the manufacturer.

Prvi Partizan is v. popular here in Europe (ammo and brass) and for good reason

hope that helps.

I'm buying 1k of it here in .308 over the weekend for EUR445/k - ammo not the brass itself, for brass it's roughly 300/k

I've been using it for years. Neck size only. Takes forever to have a case wear out. Generaly a split at the neck or a primer pocket that gets too loose.

Great that is what I was hoping to hear.

So the Prvi has a head dimension of somewhere around .478-.480?

Have you guys used the 139gr. SP for hunting? Does it perform well?

Thanks again

Oh, one more thing. Is it true that Wold Gold 6.5x55 Swedish uses Prvi brass? How could you tell if it did? What is the headstamp in Prvi?

Thanks

The few 7.62 X 39 Prvi cases I have are marked nny. Found them with the box, so I know it is Prvi.

Cool. I will order some Prvi brass. Next question where would one find this brass or bullets? I could only find the brass at Grafs and they are out. Any other places to look?

I can't wait till next week when I can pick up my Tikka.

Have you guys noticed any shortage of 6.5x55 components with all the ammo and reloading shortages?

Thanks again for the answers and all the help.

Prvi brass has been hard to get for most of this year like so many reloading supplies right now. You may have to take what you can get.

Let me help you out here. Here is what the case head on a 6.5x55 unfired case actually measures when checked with a micrometer by me.

Winchester .472 - 4725
Federal .4747
Remington .474 - 4745
Norma .4785
Prvi .477
Lapua .4775

Your Tikka with a Sako style extractor won't be as sensitive to case head diameter as say a Remington 700 style extractor. I generally avoid the Winchester cases because they have the smallest case head. But have found all the other brands seem to do fine in my 6.5x55s. However the WW case do generally work OK in Remington 700 30-06 bolt face rifles converted to 6.5x55 so even they have their usefulness.
