I'm new to the AR world, just assembled a complete PSA kit onto a stripped Anderson lower. The assembly went fine, haven't shot it yet but everything seems to be as it should.

The trigger pull is very long and jerky and pulls in series; i.e., it moves, it catches, it moves, etc. Takes about 3 series before it actually lets off. Not at all thrilled with it. Can't see an accurate shot as is now.

PSA sells an "enhanced polished nickel plated fire control group". Very inexpensive, as in $29 on sale now for everything.

Has anybody used this trigger kit, and is it worthwhile? The cost is insignificant, the question is does it really make a difference in the trigger pull? I'm not expecting a Geiselle, but some improvement would be nice.

Any firsthand knowledge would be appreciated.
 
For about $15 more you can get an ALG trigger. The ALG combined with a set of JP yellow springs, provides a smooth 4lb (ish) pull. Its my go-to cheap/quality trigger option, when I dont stick a LaRue MBT in a rifle. No experience with the PSA.
 
I bought and installed two of the PSA EPT kits recently. I think they are a great deal at $30 each. They don't drop the pull weight significantly (0.5-1.0 lb guess), but they do remove all the take up and are very smooth compared to a standard mil-spec trigger. They break very cleanly, too. Roughly measured, the trigger moves 2-3 mm when it breaks and the reset is the same distance.

For $30 + shipping, I think you will be well pleased with the improvement over your stock trigger.
 
I am a big fan of the ALG ACT triggers, I have 3 installed in various rifles.

With that said, I took a chance and tried the PSA EPT in a rifle. The two are very similar, enough so I can't tell the difference unless I concentrate. I think the major difference is the ALG coats the pins as well as the trigger group...PSA does not.

Like the ACT, it keeps a standard trigger pull but removes the scraping and creep of the mil-spec trigger. Either is money well spent.
 
I have some of the psa enhanced triggers and really like them. I actually like them better than my RRA two stage triggers. The pull is not light but it is smooth and you know when it is going to break.
 
Gotta put a plug in for the ALG ACT. A friend of mine recently received a BCM kmr recce and the ACT came in it. Very smooth, crisp trigger. I liked it, and wouldn't mind having one personally.

I've heard BCM has since come out with their own, similar trigger. No experience with it yet.
 
I have 2 standard PSA trigger kits, and a 1 ALG. I can't really tell much difference. All the PSA standard triggers I've used were better than what you describe, and I haven't tried the enhanced trigger yet. You might want to contact PSA CS and see if they'll swap some parts. Based on my (limited) experience, you probably just got unlucky and got a bad one.

Not sure yet which direction I'll go, but I noticed PSA wants $8.50 to ship an ounce or two of these trigger parts, which could be mailed for a couple of bucks in a padded envelope. I consider a 400% markup in shipping a little excessive.

If they're paying that to UPS or Fedex to ship a box for these small parts, they ought to consider their customers and try alternate shipping for small items with the USPS.

I've noticed Amazon does the same thing, tiny items arrive in large boxes. I don't pay it directly with Amazon Prime free shipping, but it no doubt affects the item cost overall.
 
PSA ships such a volume that it is not prudent to ship usps and even small parts I have ordered come UPS. The answer is to order enough stuff to off set the shipping charge, for me that has never been a problem as they cash my retirement check now. As reported earlier the ALG ACT trigger is the best going for the money, I have used them in twelve of my builds and enjoy shooting each much more than the gritty trigger rifles.
For sixty five bucks you will not get Chip Mc Cormic target quality but you will have a smooth shootable rifle.
 
I can't speak about the ALG but I have 3 RRA 2-stage match triggers and really like them. They are more expensive. I have a DPMS AR10 with their 2-stage trigger and I think it sucks and want to replace it. I might just try the ALG.
 
Even if you don't order anything else from PSA, the EPT trigger kit is worth $38.50, and at that price it's still much cheaper than any other enhanced trigger kit.

I usually pick several other items when I order from PSA to help offset their shipping charges. As long as you don't order ammo or liquids, the shipping charge stays at $8.50 for several items. You can use their shopping cart to see what items will increase the shipping fee.

PSA currently has D&H AR magazines on sale for $8 each. Order several of them along with the EPT kit, and your shipping per item decreases to a couple of bucks each. PSA also has their lower vise block on sale for $10. Look at their specials and see if there is anything else you need that can help offset the $8.50 shipping charge.

I have the PSA EPT on my 6.5 Grendel build and I like it a lot. Enough that I'm thinking of putting it in my other builds.

The Grendel is the one on the bottom:

I replaced my milspec trigger with a PSA EFCG. It went from a 6.5 lb terribly inconsistent pull, down to a very consistent 6 lb pull.

The milspec was +/- 0.5 lbs. The enhanced was +/- 0.1 lbs. So although it isn't a much lower pull, it is more consistent for sure.

Of course it wont hold a candle to the giesselle SSA in my other AR, but for 30 bucks i was pleased. I ordered two, to help justify shipping. No experience with the ALG.
 
Back around Cyber Monday, I bought a complete PSA lower with the EPT already installed. I don't have any basis for comparison in terms of other upgraded triggers, but out of three ARs, the PSA with EPT is my favorite. It was only a $15 up-charge over the same lower without EPT, so sort of a no-brainer.

As far as shipping charges go, I always look for the "sweet spot" since PSA seems to have tiers of shipping charges: $8.50, $12, $15.50 and so on. As others have suggested, just add a couple mags or boxes of ammo, and when it bumps you to the next shipping tier, subtract one.
 
I decided to go with the PSA Enhanced Polished Fire Group, and ordered it. Didn't need anything else at this point. Looking forward to installing it, and hopefully getting to shoot an AR for the first time.
 
I think you will like it. I have been very impressed with mine.

Post back here when you've tried it out to let us know how you like it compared to the stock FCG.
 
Mine came with the lpk...but I agree with what others have stated. Very little take up with a crisp consistent break and short reset. Same weight though.
 
I ordered 2 PSA triggers and 2 sets of Wolff trigger springs. Anyone else use the Wolff springs? Does anyone replace disconnector springs or Hammer Spring?
