Can anyone recommend a good place for a first-timer to learn to shoot a handgun in Mobile, AL? A good friend of mine called today to tell me she is thinking of getting a German shepherd because someone broke into her back shed the other night and her neighborhood isn't great anyway. I convinced her that there's a simpler and much less expensive solution, but she's never handled a firearm before. I'm in NC and can't help her out.

Anyway, if you know of a good place in or close to Mobile where she can try a .22 and then maybe move up to a .38 or 9mm, let me know. An understanding and patient instructor is an absolute must.

I googled it and came up with Steves on old shell rd and there was one in saraland

Gary and Scott at GunPort aka First Class Arms Training.

Coden, AL
Excellent people, Gary is a retired vet, and Scott is a retired police officer, both are certified NRA instructors.
Both have instructed my wife, and she now can almost out shoot me :uhoh:
Cannot say enough good about'em.

Great ranges/facilities, Rules - be safe, no .50cal/tracers/AP, no anal retentive range masters, never crowded, staff is very personable and accommodating.
Shotgun, Pistol 25yrd, Rifle 0-100yrd, Rifle 100-450yrd.

Steve's is a good indoor pistol range, been there a few times.
They had a good selection of rentals and ammo.
Haven't been since they reopened, don't know about Instruction availability.

Also, check BullzISports in Lucedale, MS, I've heard mixed reviews, mostly good tho.

Thanks. I will check out Steve's and First Class Arm Training.

I've also decided to buy her a ticket to NC. I'm taking her to the range myself. :)
