Purchase delayed.

I posted this at another Forum earlier, but I would like to hear the opinions of the good folks here.
I bought a S&W M-19 through an internet auction site, made arrangements to have it shipped to my local FFL, went to pick it up last Monday, the revolver was in better condition than I thought would be, but the problem was when my FFL did the federal check I was delayed, no reason for the delay was given. There is no reason I can think of that this should happen. Rather uncommon and long first and middle names, last name is semi- common but with an uncommon spelling with an III attached at the end. One minor arrest 40 years ago, one 12 over speeding citation in 1996, and 27 years LEO.

My FFL stated that he and others have noticed an increase in Federal delays in the last 6 -12 months, in fact according to him they are becoming common place. It almost sounds as if the government is doing everything it can to innate a federal waiting period on firearms purchases.
Has any of you had similar experiences? If so hopefully you would share them with us.

I bought a 9mm full-sized handgun in January and a rifle in february. 0 delays both times.

1 speeding ticket, no arrests, 21.

My first and last name combination is very rare in the US.

One minor arrest 40 years ago...

What we've seen is that folks with arrests from decades ago where no charges were filed are having issues. States are slowly working their way backward through older, non-computerized records and adding them to NICS. If the arrest was entered into the system but there's no subsequent disposition showing what happened to your case afterward, then you will get flagged for a delay while the FBI figures out what happened.

In talking with other FFL's we've found that MD records in particular are bad about this - arrests and charges are entered, but if the charges were dropped or even if no charges were filed subsequent to the arrest, that information does not get passed to NICS.

Long story short, you may end up having to get a UPIN for future transfers.

Bubbles, thanks. My arrest record is sealed, but does have an FBI number assigned, and clearly states, " not to be used for licensing or employment." Oh well I will pick my new revolver up tomorrow.

On an aside even though I voted for the man I've become very disappointed with the current federal administration.

There seems to be one person at the NICS check station that delays every
potential purchase that we call in~! I think its a matter of her not knowing
exactly how to accomplish an "insta-check"~? Also, I have noticed that the
Feds are hiring a lot more Spanish speaking persons that we here in Old
Dixie'Land can barely understand. More than once, I've had to ask these
persons to please repeat the information too me~!

Really?
I call FBI NICS several times a day and have yet to speak with anyone who has the remotest trace of a Spanish accent.

Are you calling FBI NICS or a state POC?

I get delayed about 50% of the time. Although, I am on a roll... I purchased 4 long guns in February and none of them were delayed. But prior to that the past 5 or so were.

For me, I notice the time of day/season make a difference.

There is some "flag" that requires "further investigation"... back after the election, this resulted in a delayed status. Today, it results in the FFL needing to be on hold for 2-3 minutes.

Had two handguns that I had bought over web from Buds and sent to my FFL that came in this past Wednesday. Walked in, filled out form, instant background check, walked out of FFL in less than five minutes with two handguns.

I've never been delayed in any of my purchases, including the four guns I purchased last December D) or the two I purchased last August.

In fact, a couple of years ago, one dealer commented that he'd never had an instant check go faster. Guess it helps to be a retired Fed!

Hours, maybe but not days

In VA, I had to wait an hour or so for NICS to clear, not days! AFAIK, my FFL called State Police, not some federal agency.

Which was fine, because I went to Virginia Arms, which is always an easy place to kill (pun, OK, "browse") an hour.

I purchased a long gun at auction last saturday, and was delayed 2 hours. The lady doing the check said that LEO and CHL were usually delayed, probably because we're in the system. Just takes a little longer to process if your name is already there.
