what exactly is the difference between a normal barrel and a "heavy-walled" barrel on a Mossberg, besides being thicker? properly maintained a normal barrel should last forever...what's the reasoning behind a thicker barrel? actual blunt force maybe?

well for me.....its in case I fall on a darn tree and dont bend the barrel

have a 590A1 and a Breacher both use the same HB...and its alot heavier than a 500

Maybe it handles heat better? I always figured that's why target rifles have really thick barrels, less variation in shot due to the barrel warming up.

Doesn't the bayonet attach to the mag tube on the Mossberg?

The HB is thick enough to thread for a choke like my factory accu-choked 18.5" heavy barrel. They would also be less likely to burst when firing with water in them. More weight = less kick.

More weight = less kick.

But it also makes it harder to swing too. Unless you have a valid reason for needing the heavy barrel or are in good shape and/or a little on the big side you may want to consider sticking with the standard barrel. This goes double for the extended mag. variants.
