Push Feed 1911

Hi All

With one of my 1911's I have a push feed with reloads only (230grain LRN 5.1 win 231 seated at about 1.250) I never had a push feed with factory ammo.

Is this a extractor problem??? all my mags are 7 round with wolf 11 pound spring flat follower with dimple.

I have a push feed about 1 out of 100 to 200 rounds with this 1911. Springfield loaded (stock). All the kimbers perform perfect, only the springfield.

Gun has 15lbs recoil spring 23 main spring and a EGW oversized firing pin stop with small radius.

Not if it works perfectly with factory loads as stated.

It may be the bullets you are using have a driving band shoulder and it is hitting the rifling leade.

Take the barrel out of the gun and drop one of your loads in the chamber.

See if it drops in with a "plunk" so the case head is even with the barrel hood.

Then turn it chamber down and see if it falls out of it's own weight.

If it doesn't, seat shorter until it does.

You may be getting an occasional push feed with factory ammo. It's just not stopping the slide because the extractor is snapping over the rim.

Measure the rim diameters on your reloads. They tend to grow after a few cycles. If they're larger than the rims on the new rounds, you've probably identified the bug and it's a magazine problem.

Also, check the rims of the new rounds. If you find a few with a small burr right on the edge...the extractor claw is climbing the rim.

Yes

Yes there is a small burr on the rim, only this springfield has this problem no other 1911,

the round goes in the chamber and the slide is stopped with the extractor resting on the round slaming it in the barrel, I have to use a cleaning rod from the muzzle side to get the round out.

only a few times out of 200 rounds.

What's actually happening is that the cartridge is either escaping the magazine before the slide gets to it, or nearly escapes, and when the slide gets to it, it knocks it toward the chamber and chases it.

If it happens on the last round only, either the spring is weak...which yours probably isn't since you've got 11-pound Wolff springs...or the speed bump on the follower is too small or located incorrectly.

At any other spot, the magazine is releasing the round too early.

I'd still be concerned about them jamming in the chamber so tight you have to use a stick to get them out.

That indicates one of two things wrong with your reloads.

1. Bullet is seated too long and getting stuck in the rifling.
Do the 'plunk test' I mentioned above.

Or:
2. You are over-crimping and the end of the case mouth is too small and wedging past the headspace shoulder in the chamber.

Taper crimp should measure no less then .470" - 471" at the case mouth.
Measure it.
