quality .223/5.56mm ammunition

Hi

I am new to the world of center-fire rifles, having recently purchased my first: a Stag Arms 2HL carbine. I have only used it once, firing Sellier & Bellot ammo without incident. I am now looking to make a bulk purchase of ammo but am unsure as to which manufacturer I should choose. My local gunstore has Lake City Xm193 ($229/500) but I see other retailers online selling other ammo such as Sellier & Bellot, PMC, Remington, and so forth and am unsure which would be the best.

I am simply looking for ammo to shoot at the range, not a personal defense round. Having a good price doesn't hurt either! Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks for your time.
 
It's all pretty good. If you're looking for cheap plinking ammo the only real decision is whether you want to shoot steel or brass cased ammo. Some people (not me) won't shoot steel for fear of damaging their chamber. Others won't shoot it because they reload and want brass.

Any of the brand name manufacturers will work just fine, even Wolf. Lately PMC seems to be cheapest brass cased .223 ammo. They even started shipping it in new steel GI ammo cans. Magtech is another good buy. Lake City ammo is just too expensive to shoot nowadays.

I would only shoot brass. First, many shooters who do not reload eventually decide to do so. Save your brass just in case. If you never decide to roll your own, you can sell or trade the brass.
 
I'd buy some cheap stuff like wolf if you don't want to reload, aimsurplus.com has a decent price on prvi in brass cases if you think you might.

As said, all of the major manufacturers produce good to excellent ammo for range use.

I've used Winchester USA (what everyone calls "white box"), American Eagle, Sellier & Bellot, Remington, UMC, and Black Hills. Everyone of those rounds fired on the first try. They all shot reasonbly close to the same point of aim, and they all functioned properly.

I've used PMC, Wolf, Igman, Winchester 5.56, American Eagle, Remington UMC, Georgia Arms bulk reload, and probly some other stuff I can't remember. It's all worked fine. Just keep in mind that steel-cased ammo typically runs dirtier than brass and to give your AR a nice thorough scrubbing after a trip to the range when using it. I most recently bought American Eagle's XM193 and have found a great deal locally on Federal XM855 milsurp.
 
I've heard that Radway Green is deliberately loaded down because the SA80 couldn't handle the good stuff. Is this true?

i have cases of 223 fmj.im just down the street from u in sarasota..the cases are $223 a case or $2000 for 10.I will be looking forward to hearing back from you,yes or no.thay go quick.
 
My Stag carbine shot good with Wolf, PMC, and Remington UMC all cheap stuff but accurate. The Remington was definitely the best, payed 9 a box. Even the PMC will outshoot Wolf, though, and it's reloadable.
 
I've shot PMC, UMC, Winchester and Federal Premium out of my Colt 6920, Winchester seems to group a little tighter than PMC or UMC, but shockingly the Federal premium varmint loads gave me the worst accuracy.
