Quality differences in Removable Carry Handles

Believe it or not, there probably is that much differance.

The Rock-River is a mil-spec quality forging.

The other one is probably made in China for an air-soft gun, by slave labor, out of an old beer can aluminum casting & ball-point pin springs.

$140?

Geez, I bought mine with an upper from J&T and they charged me 65 bucks. It's a very nice handle; not sure it could get any nicer.

To buy one outright (not with a gun or upper) they want $95 for it. I am sure it's as nice as anything RRA sells you.

That may very well be true, but other vendors' offerings for around 100 bucks are the former, not the latter. $140 is a tad high.

one thing I've noticed is that many many carry handle of different "brands" share the same foundry marks.

My Model1 has the what appears to be very common raised square mark. Does anyone else's have this? if so what brand

Ding ding ding ding ding!

Not sure, but the mark you're talking about sure sounds familiar...

rc model said it. $140 is steep. you can buy a colt for $125, but as armedbear stated most decent mfrs will be similar. about $105 should be normal, and you can often find them on for-sale forums for less. and yes, i've seen colts with the raised square.

The $44 is intended for airsoft use. I bought a similar one on eBay that I use on my AR with the .22 conversion kit, so I don't have to mess with the sighhts when I switch between centerfire and rimfire. It works well enough. The fit and finish is nicer than my Colt carry handle, but if the sight is bottomed out for elevation, elevation could not be adjusted unless the carry handle was removed from the rail. The screws and aperatures on the Chinese carry handle are very suseptable to rust- much more than my Colt. But for my use, it works well enough. It holds zero and doesn't fall off the weapon.

Check the EE on ARFCOM. I have seen Colt's there for $100 and less- delivered. Other brands are less. Also, check ebay- I have seen Armalites with NM aperatures sell for $75 there and other name brands priced comparably.

I have a DPMS handle on my rifle. No complaints about quality or dependability of the sights. The only thing I don't care for is the size of the opening, I have somewhat large hands and can only get my fingers about halfway in the thing. That may just be the design of removable handles though. Oh yeah, it has that square mark on the upper right hand side, as well?

hell, ill sell you the one from my colt for $80 plus shipping. shes in pretty much mint condition, i dont think i ever had it mounded when i fired the rifle
