Are all Tikka rifles long action, even if the rifle is for a short action cartridge like 308?

What about Sako?

I do believe my Tikka .243 would handle a long action cartridge if it was I were to rebarrel it. Next time I am in the shop I will grab it and see if I can drop a 30-06 round in the action. I think you might have to change out the mag because there is a blank area in the back of it, I know I seat my bullets where they hit the rifling when chambered and they are fairly long and I don't remember how much space is left forward of the bullet in the magazine.

The t3 and t3x are long actions for sure no matter what caliber they come in. The short action cartridge models of these rifles have a different bolt stop than the long action cartridge models. I have seen SAKO rifles in both short and long actions, but I have no idea about the current rifles they sell.

The Tikka is a long action, even the CTR. Not a problem at all, in fact it can be a plus when loading and shooting short action cartridges because you can load them a little longer in many cases. Some guys use long action magazines in short action cartridges and move the bolt stops in order do just that. With most rifles it only makes 1/2" shorter overall length and 2-3 oz in weight. The Tikka's are already bordering on too light and no one will care about 1/2" in length.

This.

Modding the magazine and bolt stop in my 7mm-08 allowed me to seat 162 ELD-X and 160 VLD's near the lands at 2.90" and 2.96" - providing for near 1/2 MOA accuracy and lower pressures. It was easy to do, and didn't cost me a dime either. I'm thankful I had that option in my Tikka.
