Question about NCIS Check?

A quick question. About 45 years ago my dad got a juvenile conviction, to the best of his recollection it wasn't a felony conviction.

Well, he's wanting to buy a new hunting rifle. He's been able to have a hunting license all these years and wondered if that correlates to owning firearms.

How would he go about finding out if he purchase firearms?

Go for it. If he gets turned down its not like they are gonna come and take him away or anything.

Should be fine as long as it's not a felony conviction with a possible sentence of more than 1 year in prison (IIRC).
I have watched people get NICS rejections at gun stores and no ninja suited JBTs came smashing through the windows, I'm pretty sure it's ok to try to purchase and see how it comes back. Maybe your local sheriff's dept can run a courtesy check?
If it was a juvinile conviction and he did get rejected by NICS you can request to have the record expunged or juvie records sealed.

In most states, I believe that Juvenile Courts are Civil Courts. I could be wrong. Have him go to the court and get a printout of charges/convictions.

The State does the back ground check here in CO. I have a form letter I am to hand to the individual if they get a Deny on the check. Tells them who to contact to get more info.

Data contained in NICS is obtained from local, state, federal and international records. Unlikely a 45 year old state juvenile case would be picked up- You are taking it back to 1962. I have not seen much on criminal histories that goes back that far, much less a juvenile case. Juv stuff used to be much more confidential and less like criminal matters.

lol same here!Juvie Records are nothing.I have a few misdemeanors as an adult,and got a hcp no problem.I went to my courts office,and ask for arrest records,charges,etc..and they printed them out in seconds with no charge.you can even look online and get them from several web sites for a price,but if your cheap like me just go downtown and ask.

If you are worried why not go to an attorney first. You could have the attorney run a criminal background check with the police. Your father might even be able to have the police run the check. If it is not a felony there should be no problem.
