There is a gunshop that has a couple of 1lb bottles of various powders. They are priced at 2005 prices (like $15-$17/lb) but they look a few years old. The Alliant ones are marked 2001, but they are all sealed. Because of the price, I was thinking about buying them all. Are they too old?

I'm loading plinking ammo for my Garand with surplus I4895 that is from the 60s at best. I haven't had one not go bang yet and its reasonably accurate.

2001 powder is not old powder.
Given proper storage conditions, it's good for another 25 years or more, at least!

I purchased a whole bunch of Unique in 1989, 1992. When I unearth a can at random, I shoot the stuff. Still shooting the stuff. Still chronographing the stuff. Nothing over the screens has changed since 1990 when I purchased my first chronograph.

Have shot Bullseye, Red Dot and 2400 that were in the old tin cans. Must date back from the late 50's to the middle 60's. Shoots the same as 90's vintage powder.

If it doesn't have a pungent oder it good to go.
I still have some power from the '60's too. Crayon marked price $2.50 !!!
I bitched about the price then too!
