I have a Springfield Micro Compact (3") 1911 that I am planning to carry sometimes once I get my license. It is reliable and accurate and I like how it functions.

The only thing I want to change is the ambi safety. I want to replace it with a non-ambi safety.

I have a gunsmith who can install it if necessary, but what kind of safety do you recommend and where is the best place to get it? There's so much out there, I don't know where to begin.

Is there anything else that you would consider necessary to upgrade on a carry SA Micro Compact? Any concerns about MIM parts etc.?

Thanks.

Wilson, Brown, S&A, and Brownells all sell quality parts for a 1911. You would have to personally decide on the length and width of the safety.
Some will recommend to replace all MIM parts, but to be honest even the forged steel parts can also break. If your pistol is running reliably just purchase the normal back-up parts (springs, firing pin/stop, extractor and tune it) and keep them in reserve.
