Cheap solution:

How about an old S&W that fires .32 Long or .38 S&W (shorts?) Not too much kick and those old S&Ws have some nice trigger pulls. And, since these two calibers aren't too popular these days, the guns sell for much lass than, say, a .38 SPL gun. The ammo is available online for a much more "reasonable" price than one will find in your local store.

Smallbore...I have some advice on the carpal tunnel

Sounds to me like you already have plenty of advice on guns.

My advice is with carpal tunnel itself. I suffered from this. I work as a network engineer, so this is inevitable for me.

About two years ago my new year’s resolution was to join a gym and get in shape. My son has asthma, allergy problems and has had a couple of corrective ankle surgeries. Watching him play t ball in spite of this with zero complaints made me think “What excuse do I have?” So off I went.

I found that working out with a curl bar (on a weekly basis, one day per week intensely) greatly helped my problems. The first month was painful when using as much weight as possible, but I can tell you that I no longer experience carpal tunnel syndrome pain. My ex girlfriend had similar issues, and she used just a 25lb curl bar with no weights. 15 reps, 3 or f sets. No big deal and takes 15 minutes out of your day. It is to be the curl bar though, due to the nature of the grip angle. It absolutely WILL hurt and be quite painful for a week or two while you're getting used to it and building muscle. Do some googleing, body builders develop carpal tunnel and tendinitis from using straight bars. Switching to curl bars actually helps them, too. I'm not trying to say that this is a magic solution. But I can tell you that I have had zero CT related pain and have ceased doctor visits for it. I no longer spend a few minutes rubbing my wrists in pain after a long day at work and it is an awesome feeling!

Tell her to get some of those little squeeze grip things from the exercise isle at walmart, also. Best $5 anyone with wrist pain could ever spend. 10 minutes a day with those is worth invaluable.

I don’t know if this is sound medical advice, but it worked for me. And if she is a heavy computer user, be careful of ergonomic mouse. Some “ergonomic” mice actually caused me pain. I finally threw out all the ergonomic crap, and went with a light, fingertip control mouse and a regular old keyboard with a decent wrist rest. I experience zero soreness when I get off work or on cold days. My wrists and forearms feel sooooo much better.

If you’re looking for a comfortable mouse, I found one that one of my friend’s teenage gamer son used. After an hour of use I detested this mouse. After a week of use (gift), I loved it. After a month of use, I bought one to take to work. You can find them at any e-tailer for $50 or less. Razer Copperhead. It looks geeky, but it doesn't hurt me like my "ergonomic" $70 or more mice did.
