How hard is it to mount a scope on one?
I have a 3X9X40 Nikon that needs something to be mounted on.
Does the rear sight get in the way of the scope?
I already know that CZ guns are really good, I just want to know what I will have to go through to get one ready to hunt with.
Thanks.

Check out the CZ-Forum for scope mount suggestions.

CZ makes nice rings in several heights. The trick is to find a scope that extends beyond the sight. On the .22's you can easiy remove the ladder sight, but you still have the mount in the way. On the 527 and the 550 you might have to go to a high mount ring. It depends on the size of the objective lens. You didn't say which gun this was going on. A 40mm objective is not that large. The standard CZ rings should work. $45, but they are quality steel rings. Millet and others also make rings that will fit. Again, search the czforum for specific models.

Since you mention the rear sight, I assume you don't have a CZ 550 American (since they don't have sights).

That means you'll have to buy rings (Americans come with CZ rings). Your choices are:

CZ: all steel, heavy, well made.

Warne: sintered metal, quick-detachable, possibly not the most durable.

Talley: machined from bar stock; choice of fixed, QD screw, or QD lever; outstanding quality; high price.

Leupold: rumored to be available shortly. I have no details, though.

Conetrol: Excellent quality, sleek, but requires an adapter base.

Millett: the ones I've seen were extruded aluminum crap that belong in the trash can. Go ahead, ask me how I *really* feel about them :D

I use the Talleys. You'll pay more but you'll also get more. My second choice would be the CZ rings. They're a lot cheaper and will work just fine.

Best,
Joe

A CZ is a Mauser action, its not like its hard to find a mount.. a see-through mount is different though.

Dr. Rob,

A CZ is a Mauser derivative with integral dovetails that take special rings. Typical Mauser 98 scope mounts won't work.

Best,
Joe
