In the Alliant Reloader Guide the max load is--17.0 grs. of 2400 at 1.62 oal. FPS is 1300 at 34,600. 5" barrel.
In the Lyman 48th the max load 18.3grs. of 2400 at--1.610 oal. FPS is 1105 at 38,700. 4" barrel.
When I compare the two loads it don't look right. 1.3 more grs. and 4100 more pressure to get less fps. Is it just the 1" shorter barrel. I'm going to be using them in a OM SBH Ruger with a 5" barrel. What do ya'll think. Of course I will reduce the load and work up. Thanks

I think Alliant and Lyman didn't use the same test barrel, barrel length, primer, case, or powder lot #.

The results is what it is.

Every barrel is different enough that you will get two different velocitys out of identical guns with the same load.

I tend to pretty much disregard the published velocities for the reasons that rcmodel detailed. Mine never match theirs anyway.
