LGS has a Ruger Security Six, six inch barrel, adjustable sights. Bluing is highly polished and very little wear- faintest of a turn line starting in the bolt notches. Have not seen bluing like this on a Ruger in a long time, if ever. Lock up seems good. Not bank vault solid, but a lot better than other revolvers I've seen. There didn't seem to be much, if any flame cutting on the inner top strap. Shop wants $400 for it.

I know that Ruger doesn't work on these any more. Not an expert on revolvers, enough to get myself in trouble. Is there anything else I should be looking for/at with this model? How were these? I had a service six years ago that was rode hard and put away wet when I got it, but I don't recall much about it other than that.

What's the good and bad on these? Accuracy? Looking to fill a 38/357 void fun range gun. Thank you and Happy New Year.

They are great guns and $400 for one in great shape is a very good deal IMHO. Hard to buy that kind of quality in a new revolver for $400. Even used any more.

$400 for a pristine specimin sounds appealing. Most consider the single six to be the equal of the GP100, and some say it's even better.

I believe all common parts are available online still.

I really like mine ...
My brother has a 6 inch barreled blued Security Six .. It was well used when he bought it .. He runs quite bit of ammo through it 90% is 357 mag .. It is his 4 wheeler gun ..

Do it bro!

I wouldn't worry about the parts and service angle too much as you are highly unlikely to break it!

The biggest issue with a S6 is grips- the thin factory service grips don't provide a whole lot of control firing hot magnums and the target grips are hard to find(if its not already wearing them)- and aftermarket ones are getting rare as well.

Otherwise, they are great revolvers. Good luck!

I had my fair share of the Ruger Six Series (Security, Service, and Speed Six), and all were well designed and over built to last for many years with little if any service on them required.

I would set a new land speed record getting my wallet out for that Security Six priced at $400!

Putting Pachmayr Presentation grips on my Security Six was always the first thing I did when I got a new one! There also use to be a company out of New York, called Siles Imports I think, that use have some pretty nice (and relatively inexpensive), wood grips that looked a lot like yours.

As far as the grips go...I love the way the wood grips look, they just beat me up with 357's. A Tyler T grip might help, but the Pachmayrs work so well, I think I'll stick with them. As my first (and so far only) revolver, I don't think I could have done much better. I had been stalking the local gun boards for the better part of 2 years when i saw the one I got come up for $400. I couldn't get the money out fast enough...and glad I did. The Security Six is a friggin' tank...

Back in the day--- before police depts. issued sidearms, I carried one on duty for 20 years. Mine was stainless. My oldest daughter got it when I retired. I since bought one that is blued, for old time sake. FWIW. I always qualified at the police range as expert. Never had a moments trouble

Like others have said, I would be breaking personal speed records pulling my wallet out.
