My CZ455 Trainer has excellent tangent sights which I like to shoot siluetas offhand out to 100m. But I also like to benchrest it for some good old group therapy. Going back and forth was a PIA, having to sight in the scope time and again. Well, I found the answer to my dual challenge. Warne makes some nice quick disconnect rings that brings back my scope back to zero. I was sceptical, but I zeroed in my scope to 50yd, and here's the picture where I removed the scope to shoot at a few steel plates. Then I remounted it toollessly, and it went back spot-on to zero! Wow, was I impressed. Have you had similar results with a quick, toolless scope removal system?

Yup. Proper machining is proper machining. My Larue's line up fine.

But, I hose down my firearms with Krylon. Paint can seriously mess this all up.

So now my QR mounts are permanent. Their main purpose is to be removed easy, should the optic on the carbine fail.

Yep, Burris makes a quick detach that also works very well. Got one on one of my AR's and my 10/22 take down.

I've been using standard Weaver mounts like that for years. You do need a screw driver to swap them out but I've never had an issue with them not being zeroed when remounting. I have 2 very different scopes zeroed for one of my Ruger 10/22's. A 1-4X for close fast work, and a 3-9X for more precision. I swap them as needed.

The position of the levers on Warne QDs can double as registration guides and get you back pretty close to zero. After that, repeatability depends on how well the rings fit the base.

I don't dismount and replace zeroed scopes as a rule, so I can't really say much about my specific rifles.

Griffin & Howe for kewl factor.
The Germans did well with their single claw and double claw mounts, their long rail QD scope system and their turret mounts. The Turret mounts were especially pretty because they have perfectly round one-piece scope rings with no projections. Trouble is that the scope had to be disassembled and inserted into the scope ring and afterward reassembled. Modernly the HK claw mount system is good too.

I'll second jmr40.

Have "several"(haha, lots) stupid accurate cast bolt rigs that utilize Weavers and twin scopes. They repeat almost universally to within a cpl clicks when swapped out. The reason for swapping is going from target, and load development with higher magnification to lower/lighter,more field use oriented. No real complaints, been doing it this way for decades.

Installed my first set of quick detach over 35 years ago. The late "Leonard Brownell" came up with the original design that was later picked up and marketed by Kimber. After Kimber went bankrupt Warne and Dave Talley began offering similar rings. The Talley's are more true to the original design of the Kimber's.

At one time I had a Swarovski scope (w/Kimber rings) mounted on a 25-06 and a 7mm. One scope shared by two rifles. The zero was so close that the only adjustment when switching was for elevation.

Still have quite a few of the Kimber rings, below is pictured on Knight blackpowder rifle. Nice to be able to remove the scope for cleaning....always returns to zero.

I have used Warne and Leupold for years with no issues . I swap scopes for testing and hunting quite often and have never had POI move enough to worry about.

Man, am I late to the game. My Dad always pointed out when we'd watch Dirty Harry or other movies how it couldn't be done. Now I've got QD rings for my RGSR on the list.

My 70 year old Unertl can be taken off and put back on and usually not require more than a click or two of either knob to be back in business.

Good choice. I have Warne QDs on my CZ527 and my Ruger Mini-30. They're 100% back to zero every time when removed and remounted.

For QD mounts on "non-AR15s" I've use: Leupold, Warne, Styer and Larue. All have worked well (under 1/2 MOA) once I figured out my installation technique and was consistent in remounting them.

We are talking QR Mounts . not something you need a screwdriver for .

And like jmr40 you also need a screwdriver . We are talking QUICK RELEASE mounts .

A coin works better, and is what I use so.... you would be wrong.

Probably not directly applicable to the OP but I have a KDG Sidelok Modular Optic Mount on my 30 Remington AR and it has been really good about coming off and back on without loosing zero. The couple times I have tried it it returned within 1/2 MOA for me. It locks on very securely to a Picatinny rail but can be removed and reattached without tools.

Here is my take away based on experience with fellow hunters who use RTZ mounts - trust but verify (zero) before starting anything like that hog hunt you traveled cross country to do or your trophy buck/elk/nilgai/lion hunt. Take the time to put a shot or two down range on a target before you start if you have had to remount your optic for some reason, even with RTZ mounts.

i've owned several, from larue to scalarworks. my expectation is they're within 1 MOA, but never seem to be exact. good enough for hunting. i don't use them for long range / small targets

some cool pics above. love some of the history

I have Warne QD rings on some rifles and have been happy. I have them strictly for the purpose of swapping out for another pre-zeroed scope if scope number one goes tits up. So they don’t get much use.
