Quick Question on Holster Rig

All of mine that have any form of retention is a thong over the spur. It's the least intrusive. I will say that holsters in the old west didn't need anything to keep the gun from falling out. The holster was a tight fit so it was it's own retention.
I have slim jims that fit like that, as they were designed, (good holsters for horseback) and more modern but still western, Threepersons from a few makers. Also good on horseback or in a vehicle with barrels under 5”… mine have straps or thong and one has a thong with a firing pin hole intended to be holstered and then lower the hammer and firing pin into the thong. All six can be loaded this way and it’s the fastest way to draw and fire an SAA.
wonder if non historic recorded quick draw fights really happened

I mean, they did had duels in the Victorian days.
I’m sure there were times when a fella was in a hurry to get a pistol up and running. Doubt it ever happened like the movies. Common sense says that if you know someone is coming for you with malicious intent you’ll get that gun in your hand or better yet, grab a repeating rifle.

you are 100% right, it’s actually one of my favorite rifles. I’ll put it back to original.

I’ll just pick a Ruger Marlin 336, and have fun with that
That rifle is uglier than a mud fence but it’s your mud fence… I’ve seen those setups here and there. Not my cup of tea but you’re right, for a person who grew up with high grade walnut, vivid color case hardening, and blued steel it’s just wrong! ;-)

Since this is the black powder forum, is there any chance black powder could be mentioned occasionally.

The last several pages of this are quite annoying for any who come here to discuss black powder shooting be it muzzle loader, percussion, or cartridge.

my bad! Black Powder only People

The original post was about holsters not black powder and it morphed. If you're that annoyed and you know where the thread is headed then don't read anymore of it.

it’s still about holsters, we just are having a bit of a chat that very normal with humans.

So why post about holster in the BP section?

Because I want to hear the persecutive of the historians & old timers who are passionate about leather and correct wear from the Black Powder days. We have a hand full of Leather makes and Collectors and Smith here in the BP section that I much respect their option.

Nuff with the smoke blowing

Mark said, "Because I want to hear the persecutive of the historians & old timers who are passionate about leather and correct wear from the Black Powder days." I was suggesting we get back to the OP's question. Since you found my post so annoying I will take your suggestion and not read anymore. To quote a line from Curly Bill Brocius in the movie Tombstone, "Bye."

That's not a tassel, it's a leather thong on the saddle ring to keep it from rattling, an ode to the Red Ryder. I pride myself on being open minded, when it comes to firearms but the line has to be drawn somewhere. I'm cool with the whole "tactical levergun" concept but the leverfied-AR is gross. The whole thing makes me queasy.

Very few (none) threads go in a straight line. More of a snake down the path. As humans, thoughts drift onto tangents, then meander back, only to drift again.

When the drift begins to make a path of it's own, some redirection may become necessary.

It's a breath of fresh air to be on a forum with as much traffic as this one that allows thread drift. I belong to a couple that if you get one iota out of lockstep they delete it and send you a message. I'm sorry Dave T got his panties in a wad over my comment.

I’ve been waiting to bring this up Hawg but in one of the photos you posted your holster is stitched 8 holes per inch and frankly, that just wasn’t done! Ermagerd!!

I would look around for a good old used one, picked mine up old and well used but has "character".... i even use it for cfda , well, i should call it " fast as i can draw  works great.
I don’t ever know were to begin to find a used rig.

so here’s my final draft for a holster.

2 strong side 7.5” drop holster for easy drawing. Money belt with 24 holes

Aslo, the two 7.5” Colt is well balanced and I can spin the living daylights out of it.
