What is the quietest .45ACP suppressor? What does the sound signature sound like. For instance, does it sound like an unsuppressed .22 or pellet gun or what? Thanks.

Right now it is a toss up between the Silencerco Osprey and the Ti-Rant. Each supporter will say the brand he has or loikes is quieter. I beleive that the Osprey may be just a tiny bit quieter than the Ti-Rant.
Shooting 45 to me sounds like an air nailer going off. You don't get "Hollywood" quiet but they current suppressors are a big step up. I have a CCF Impuls II that I use for 45, and I am seriously thinking about getting the Osprey because their is a noticble difference between them.

I am sure someone has made one that is truly a silencer on a single shot but if you wanted one that would fit on a pistol and function your choices diminish. For example I built one for a 458 socom that makes it quieter than any of my commercially available cans for other rifle cartridges but on, say a 1911 would be like making a 10’ barrel, very quite but also very unusable. The large hole is a problem but volume helps, for sound at least.
I have a 9mm that makes less noise than some pellet rifles but it's huge as well.

Ill second the Tirant or Osprey. Yes it will sound just a tad louder than a suppressed 22. The bullet flight and impact are louder than a suppressed 22.

How loud are the .45ACP Oprey and the Ti-Rant compared to a suppressed MP5? Are they quieter than an unsuppressed .22? Are they quieter than a Red Ryder BB gun? I'm looking for some kind of comparison. It is difficult to tell in videos. Thanks.

The Tirant and Osprey shot wet are quieter than a paintball gun but with the added "thump" of a 230grn projectile hitting a target.
Put it this way, the Tirant and Osprey are way ahead of any other 45 can out there right now. Buy either and youll be happy.

The 9mm was shot dry and I only put 5cc of gel in the 45 can at the beginning of our outing and never added any more. I should have put about 8cc's in and it would have lasted longer.

Titsworths test last winter reflected the tirant metered a tad quieter, say 1/2db, but latest reports by customers say the osprey is quieter. Its quite common for makers to modify prototypes in reflecting better for marketing than the commercial can in hand of customers. Opening up specs later. To me it didnt matter which was marginally quieter as the undetectable difference doesnt outweigh the unique features and design of the osprey. Personally I draw the line on length and wont buy a silencer longer than 8" as the tirant is almost 9". Also, its nice not having to buy higher sights to see over the typical cylinder can. I'm excited as I should be getting my osprey stamp any day now. Let ya know how it sounds. For what its worth I know of no one to say a bad thing about Silencerco customer service, yet that assertion cant be extended to aac. Nonetheless, these 2 cans are the cream of the crop for 45 silencers.

I first saw the osprey at the 2009 silencer shoot and man, Josh could not have been a nicer guy. He also let me shoot the 45 osprey prototype on my USPT45, It had such a nice tone to it. Here is a video of me shooting the prototype at the shoot...
